What is Hextall doing
Sharks will either take a bad bottom 6 player contract like McGinn or they will retain. Not doing both given the primary motivation for moving Burns is to get cap space. This deal nets the Sharks a whopping $1-1.5 million in cap space by the time another bottom 6 forward in Heinen is re-signed.

Competitive roster for the 22-23 season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>He was claimed off of waivers in 2021 before the season started and Detroit had the highest waiver priority at that time. If Detroit wanted him they could've had him without giving up any assets. I was just trying to give an accurate description from Detroit's pov and since he was claimed off of waivers I think it works. I wasn't trying to be mean and I'm sorry if it offended you but it is true. Would you rather I use bottom 6 forward? His rels are all below the team average and if he is so good why is he being traded with Simek for a middle of the road prospect and a 7th rd pick? Detroit resigning Dekeyser would be about the same as adding Simek. Detroit doesn't need anymore wingers and RHDs are always in demand. So maybe instead of getting mad about how someone describes one of your players try offering something the other team needs or wants.</div></div>
His rels are all quite literally positive (while taking only 43% OZ starts) so not sure where you're gathering that from.
If your defense is that they didn't claim him 2 years ago so why would they want him now, 1) He's a more proven player now than he was then and 2) I'd say that's more damning of the Detroit scouting department than anything for not knowing who he was. Detroit is literally paying a guy $4 million a year for 3 more years to be a lesser version of Balcers (making $1.55 million) in Fabbri (same even strength G/60 and A/60 while Balcers has better possession stats).

Pretty gross mischaracterization of Balcers, but okay.
Just because Ottawa is run by idiots and kept really bad veteran players on their opening night roster over Balcers doesn't mean he's bad. Sharks drafted him originally and included him in the Karlsson trade so jumped at the opportunity to get him back. Been a nice 2 way 3rd line winger making minimal money with team control. Sharks would be attaching him as a sweetener to get Simek's money off the books.

Your bottom pair D-Man should have been out of the NHL 5 years ago (Russell) and your next one is making $5.3 million this year and next, so makes sense why Minnesota would have said no. I can see why you'd be eager to trade a bottom pair guy though since you have 3 of them in Russell, Ceci, and Keith.

Mark Stone was not a center. Centers require more in return.
Hertl is going to cost 2 premium assets if he is dealt. Like 2 1st rounders or a 1st rounder and a top prospect. Just look at the Martin Hanzal trade with Minnesota a few years back to see how much more valuable centers are than wingers in trades (Hanzal went for basically a 1st and 2nd as basically a 2/3C).

Like the premise. Would rather see if they could do Tatar on a 1 year deal at closer to $5-5.5 million than Palmieri with some term simply because there are the deals for Hertl, Ferraro, and Knyzhov to deal with next summer and I think someone out of Dahlen, Eklund, Wiesblatt, or Bordeleau would be ready to take on a scoring role on the Hertl line. Also the potential that Barabanov is due for a big raise if it turns out last season was not a fluke so just prefer to have some flexibility for next offseason rather than give out term to a 2nd line winger.

1) You can't retain more than 50% of a deal so $5 million is literally impossible.
2) If SJ is going to retain that much in addition to giving up a pick they'd just buy him out.
So in no way does this make any sense.

Think this is close to fair, but probably also favors the Yotes a bit given what they can flip Labanc into if they play him the way they played Garland with heavy OZ starts.
Dvorak is more of a 3C that was a PP specialist in 2021 than he is a top 6 guy and I think being way overvalued by Yotes fans. He had a solid year from a counting stats standpoint, but his underlyings were pretty average to mediocre and his counting stats were fluffed up by a ridiculously high shooting percentage and PP goals (i.e. things that are volatile year to year and not indicators of future performance). For perspective, his shooting percentage was 17.9% compared to career average of 13.6% while he scored 8 PP goals this year in 56 games after having scored a total of 11 PP goals in the prior 246 games.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafs_and_Sens_Fan</b></div><div>What does Tatar get 4.5Mx4? That's not that much less than Landeskog.
Tatar has only produced better than Landeskog for 1 season, other than that he has hung around 50 points per season. Tatar is also far worse defensively and was slumping so badly at the end of last season Montreal made him a healthy scratch for most of their cup run.
I mean sure he's an option but a risky one.
Landeskog got more points than Tatar and Compher combined last season.</div></div>
Landeskog played with the 2nd best player in the world and maybe the best RW in the game to get those numbers, which is the entire point of why his role isn't one worth spending out the butt for. Whoever is playing with Mackinnon and Rantanen is going to put up huge numbers with an ounce of ability. You don't need to handicap yourself long-term on Landeskog to play that role, especially when Tatar can probably be had on a 2-3 year deal that expires when Mackinnon needs his extension and costs about half of what Landeskog will AAV wise, which allows them to either address goaltending or add some much needed depth on the 2nd and 3rd lines.

He's 54% and 55% the past 2 seasons in the dot so not sure what you're looking at in terms of getting more out of someone on faceoffs.
I like his skating ability on the 3rd line and like that he has the ability to play on both the PK unit as well as the 2nd unit PP. SJ was interested in him last year until they decided to turn over spots in the bottom 6 to the youngsters, but I think DW could do much much worse than Haula tomorrow. Haula and Bonino are probably about the only 3C candidates that add much to this group in the role that DW is looking for in terms of playing heavy DZ minutes.

Thing is that he's not that hard to replace on the ice. He gets to ride passenger on a line with 2 elite linemates that do the vast majority of the heavy lifting while playing pretty easy offensive zone minutes and not having to do any PKing or anything like that. Avs are going to really regret giving out that long of a contract to Landeskog.

Frank has nailed the offseason thus far though so I am hesitant to question him. Kurz and Sheng both also said they'd heard rumblings as well. That said, I agree that I think they find a way to make amends and keep him around. Given DW's stated need for guys that play a men's game, Kane is one of those on the roster that does so. Barring a fair value or better deal, think Kane is back next year. It won't be for a cap dump and even worse problem child like this deal laid out assuredly.
