<a href="/users/MNBassman" target="_blank">@MNBassman</a> I understand wanting to embrace the rebuild, but I believe that you still need experience to balance out the youth... Or you end up with the Oilers... All the young talent, most of whom are pushed up the lineup too quickly can hurt their development...

I love Spurgeon. I want him to have a chance to win. Because of that, I hope he gets dealt to Tampa or someone else with a legitimate shot at the cup.

Cap situation Might mean can't do the 1st pick and second wild player... So who is the better match going to FLA in this trade for Trocheck? Because I agree that I don't see FLA having the cap for Panarin and Bob and Zucker and Spurgeon

I just don't think Point is attainable even with Spurgeon as part of the return. We'd also have to retain contract or take a contract back (not a problem) but I still don't think that gets it done. <a href="/users/TanSor" target="_blank">@TanSor</a> do you agree? What Every Team Should Do - Get Rid Of The Players Youre Shopping
I am not too big on this... it creates a short term log-jam down the middle... Duchene-Staal-Koivu-Patrick - Ek - Rask and technically also Kunin (who should be on this roster). Fenton made his bed by committing to Staal, so I don't think going after Duchene is the best option. Unless Koivu is on IR to start the year, Patrick needs solid minutes ... and So does Ek... if those have any chance of developing into 1C and 2C in this league respectively, you need them to get the minutes. So I'd say either trade for Patrick or sign Duchene... or trade Ek as well.

Trade Zucker
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>I heard that! My main issue with acquiring Ehlers is the fact he's a left shot. I love the player, but having 1 right shot in our top 9 really limited our scoring effectiveness last year. Ek and Zucker sounds close to me. Still not sure if it's enough, but it's better. If we made a trade like that, I'd hope there's a subsequent move to get us a right shot center (like a Spurgeon for Patrick type trade).</div></div>
There’d have to be a subsequent trade to make the top 9 more effective.
Fenton reiterated again his plan to extend Spurgeon, I just doubt Spurgeon wants to stay at this point, so capturing his potential seems reasonable (and I can't believe I am actually in favor of trading my favorite Wild player).

I only want to trade Ek if we are getting a high end young center... I'd prefer Nico Hischier but he is not going to be traded... So someone like Patrick... Otherwise Ek is a very good insurance policy for Koivu and Staal.

Philly and Vancouver
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>I'm pretty sure I've made a post like that before! Realistically speaking, Spurgeon or Dumba are probably our only tickets to getting Patrick. Obviously trading Dumba for him isn't smart, but Spurgeon with an extension should do the trick as the centerpiece.
For Kapanen, you're probably looking at Spurgeon or Dumba (I think moving either for Kapanen is a bad idea) on D and probably Greenway on forward. I'd rather Keep Greenway, but apparently Fenton was not happy with the way he played in the Calder Cup playoffs and even if we trade Zucker we have one too many LW's.
I don't think Zucker will get us either of those two. He's too much cap for Toronto unless we do something dumb like taking Zaitsev and Marleau and he's not valuable enough to bring back a potential 1C.
Edit: nevermind, I was going to post a thread with Patrick and Kapanen but I never did. I ended up posting a Philly and Anaheim trade instead, but you could swap my Anaheim trade (Greenway for Kase) out for a Toronto trade (Greenway for Kapanen).</div></div>
I was initially high on Greenway for Kapanen, but have pulled back a little... but I really like investing in Patrick for 2-3 years from now, and keep thinking about what could pair well with him.

Philly and Vancouver
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>Agree completely. We need a right shot forward or two and one of them has to be a playmaker. I think Donato and Fiala showed flashes of becoming solid playmakers, but ideally we use both as trigger-men. I think Spurgeon is probably the only piece we can use to get a high-end top 6 right shot playmaker, and that was kind of the idea with the Patrick trade. He has always been seen as a jack of all trades player but I think he has a lot of upside as a playmaker. His hockey sense is really, really good and he can pull off tough passes. We will see if Fenton is willing to move Spurgeon, but if he is then I think there will be a huge market and we should all hope that Spurgeon is willing to sign an extension with his new team since he will bring more value in a trade (which is why I think Philly is such a great fit since Fletcher is the man that discovered Spurgeon and gave him the opportunity to become who is today, I imagine their relationship is really good). </div></div>
Just thinking aloud... What would it take to get Patrick (as the playmaker) and Kapanen (as the shooter)? Thinking several scenarios... Ek, Zucker Spurgeon? (Since Patrick will take Ek's center spot). Any package that doesn't include Spurgeon since Fenton doesn't want to trade him? I don't think that combo has been done yet.

I also like the Philly trade. I am not as sure about the Vancouver trade. Virtanen could break out this year or next, but he hasn't yet, so I am just not sure. Same goes for Patrick. Both have given enough to suggest they can be top 6 for a while. Just not sold on it.

If Fenton decides he has to move on from Spurgeon (which he probably doesn't want to do, but might decide it is best for the team in the end) Fletcher certainly would jump at the chance to get him back, but I wonder if he won't trade Patrick simply because of Leddy for Barker. He doesn't want to do that mistake again.
Each team would get one downgrade and one upgrade as it currently stands.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>Good question. I'm not sure, it kind of depends on what you value more. Kapanen has a better shot and is faster but Kase has better hands and can be more of a playmaker.</div></div>

Problem is, when you give up big time assets for a player needing a new contract, you have less leverage and you usually end up having to overpay them. If I’m GM and Fiala’s camp is demanding a 5-6 year deal...I’m trading him, period!</div></div>
Seems fairly unlikely that Fenton would trade him. Fenton is more likely to think that with gambling coming into the game, the cap will only go up and the longer he can lock up Fiala the better it will be... so get ready to be disappointed because while I think a 2yr x 2.5MM makes the most sense as <a href="/users/TanSor" target="_blank">@TanSor</a> said, I could very much see a 6yr x 5MM. Fenton pushed in a lot of chips (Granlund and only to Nashville) with Fiala so he definitely doesn't trade him now... But thats just my opinion based on how I read the published articles.
