The price for Josh Anderson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Comping Reeves to Anderson is like comping Suzuki to McDavid LMAO and Kostin's ceiling is not as high as you might like to believe, 23 years old 4 years since his draft and has only managed to put up 12 points in 54 NHL games, even his AHL numbers are not that impressive. A better comp would be Tom Wilson or Patrick Maroon, both at least have similar numbers to Anderson over their careers. Marroon is 0.41 PPG, Wilson has 0.42 PPG and Anderson has 0.43 PPG. Anderson is the same age as Wilson as well, do you think the Caps move Wilson for less than a 1st?</div></div>
Maroon makes $1m
Wilson scored 52 pts last year, has one year left.
Not great comps

My Lines for Next Game Familiarity Balance and Scoring
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>I was joking obviously 🙄
Yeah, you’re pretty traditional and predictable that way, but I’m all for spreading the depth and talent, matching skill sets and getting away from the old “checking line” and using the 4th as a High Energy Short Burst Scoring line with Young Players
The Guys I have in the Top-6 are the ones most deserving to be up there, so IOW the players playing the best right now are the Top 2 lines. You could debate Backlund vs Coleman, but Backlund would be needed to Centre the Rookies or Weaker Playing Wingers = Dube & Mang
Dube & Mang are in a rut, so motivate them by demoting and having them work back up, but beyond that’s it’s finding effective pairings and matching skill sets.
Could split the 3rd & 4th lines too:
Mangiapane-Backlund-Phillips
Pelletier-Dube-Lewis/Ritchie
But since Phillips & Pelletier are already used to playing opposite one another, I say maintain familiarity; Notice that I also have them on the PP as they are very effective together there too.
If you want more physicality, simply swap Lewis out for Ritchie
Ruzicka’s our best scoring forward this season, it would be an absolute sin to demote him to the 4th line</div></div>
I don't have an issue with rolling 4 lines but I don't think your lines are correct at all. Vegas has proven that rolling 4 lines is very effective.
You are way overestimating Ruzicka. He has flaws in his game and they became very apparent when he was playing with Lindholm. Did he produce there? Yes, but most of his points were from just going hard to the net and not actually skill. He is much more suited for a depth role and I think playing with Backlund like they have him right now could help him improve his 2-way game.
As for the Kadri - Mangiapane - Dube line, they are actually out chancing their opponent just not outscoring. To me Sutter probably sees this and that's why he's keeping them together (I personally would still like to see Mangiapane eith Backs and Pickles).
Backlund and Coleman have way too much synergy to ever consider separating them.
You know Calgary's top line in the AHL last year was Pelletier - Ruzicka - Phillips. If you want an energy line why not do that? If you are only bringing up 1 of them I can understand putting that player in the top 9 but not if both are brought up

Lines vs WSH hopefully
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>What are your thoughts on:
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Ruzicka
Dube - Kadri - Toffoli
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic/Lewis/Rooney/Ritchie
I think Ruzicka's warts are showing in his game a little but, the inconsistency is starting to show up and his transition game doesn't look great. He gives me a little bit of a Monahan lite impression, every time he has the puck on his stick he wants to shoot, Huberdeau can facilitate that.
No doubt Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman should get a few games together here.</div></div>
I don't mind it.
I do want to say something about Ruzicka. He reminds me a lot of Ferland. Not exactly a top 6 player but a player who works hard and gets rewarded for just going to the net. In an ideal world he is pushed down the lineup for superior players but we dont have that luxury right now. There are definitely flaws in his game and I agree they have shown in the recent couple but I think he's worth keeping in the top 6 for now simply because we need something working and there is synergy more than skill.

Would this land chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>Yes and no, they took on Ladd, Little, Kassian plus the guys from Vancouver last season. Insured contracts and low salary/high cap hit contracts. If they wanted to stockpile picks from teams that want cap space to compete, there are contracts out there that paid their bonus last July and are due almost no money. If they are moving their best asset you would think they’d aim for a pick that won’t be in the last 10 spots of the draft.
Tough spot for Edmonton cause they’ll have to find a money in, money out deal and the money they’d be willing to move out just doesn’t have a ton of trade value.
It will be steep, that’s a lot. Will be a really interesting story to follow. I feel like it will be a draft day trade when more teams have an idea if they’ll compete next season and they can get a read on Chychurn’s health throughout this season</div></div>
Yes, but how many of those contracts are bad contracts without trade protection? They already stock piled a ton of picks from taking on such contracts over the years, but at the same time moving out guys with value. They need to stay above the cap floor of course, so whenever they get the opportunity to take on bad contracts like those they do. Notice though how they have a ton of 2nds and 3rds and not a ton of firsts? So, the main way is going to be by moving guys with value on their team.
Will they be willing to take Barrie maybe, but perhaps not, there's more upside for them to take a guy like Puljujarvi. It's high time for Arizona to move Chychrun, so he's probably gone after he plays like 9 games or so.
I think they rather trade with Ottawa though, and take Zaitsev for extra payment. Similar cap hit to Chychrun like Barrie but he' s owed less by 0.5 mil.

I wonder is Dube would be a better Centre than Ruzicka and whether Toffoli should be slotted in at LW.
Only thing I don't like is Lucic being in. We play a Young Fast Team in NJD tonight, so I'd go with more Acceleration & Defense: Rooney-Lewis-Ritchie
Also, I believe Tanev will be out again</div></div>
Nico Hischier is on pace to be a Selke finalist this year, stacking the 1st line and leaving the others out to dry is almost counterproductive. Also Lucic isn't a slow skater he just doesn't have great acceleration anymore. With the gameplan generally being to out grind teams, especially ones that rely so much on their speed like Jersey Lucic should definitely be in the lineup

Something needs to change
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>I think what I suggested in my head is a bit of a get right line for Lindholm, tough to start slow with Mangiapane and Dube on your line. I do think by season end the Flames top line is Huberdeau, Lindholm, Mangiapane as you suggested. Despite the constant dragging of the guy Toffoli looks dangerous again, 53 shot attempts with only 33 shots, he's shooting right around his career average but not getting a ton of shots through. I think a part of it is that he and Lindholm like to occupy the same space 5 on 5 in the o zone, Lindholm possesses the puck at an elite level on offense and Toffoli doesn't have the quickness to get open when covered. Kadri and Huberdeau are elite at zone entries and opportunities on the rush, tough not to be open when one of those two have the puck at top speed, he should be able to be a good trailer guy on that line that gets a ton of shooting opportunities in dangerous areas.</div></div>
Yeah it's nothing against Toffoli. I think what you are saying is accurate here. Him and Lindholm similar players and just don't mesh well. I think Toffoli would fit very well playing with Kadri though (that or with Backlund/Coleman of we acquire another top 6 winger or promote someone from our pool). The Huberdeau line really needed a puck carrier though

A different looking team at the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>Late 1st + Zary for Horvat 50% retained would be a steal. I would expect at least another 2nd and maybe another Prospect for the retention. At just 27, Horvat is in his peak years and he's Canadian, so is more likely to sign & stay in CGY = less of a Flight Risk.
Boeser has better size, but he's soft and lazy compared to Garland who would be a much better fit on the Flames even though he's on the smaller size. Boeser is a one-dimensional offensive player afaic. If we did bring him in, it'd be for the 1RW position, but again, I'd prefer the Canadian Centre or Garland more.
Horvat >>> Kadri at FaceOffs, so have him take the FaceOffs and then move & play RW like MTL is doing with Monahan
I'd have Mang compete with Garland for the 1RW. Toffoli just doesn't have enough foot speed to be on a line with Huby & Lindy. He should be used on the #1 PP and with Coleman & Backlund imo or sent to VAN for Horvat, Garland or Boeser, but I don't see Sutter letting his Lucky Charm go</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>It would be a steal, but so unlikely. Especially in division.
Again, Boeser and Garland could be argued until you're blue in the face, either or would be a great acquisition.
There are significantly more responsibilities to be a C than taking faceoffs, I get it's important but a 4% swing isn't worth having guys swapping positions mid shift because one of the projected worst teams in the league is doing it with a coach that has notoriously said he just wants the guys to play as opposed to the anti-Marty St. Louis structural guru that Sutter is.
I mean Toffoli is at a point per game clip right now.. it obviously doesn't sustain but if he's producing at a .70 - .75 that's still 55+ points while playing a really really strong defensive game that pairs well with Lindholm and let's Huberdeau take risks in the OZone that line shouldn't be touched at this point. That DNA line is seriously too good to break up right now.</div></div>
Good thoughts here, appreciate the feedback. The original goal of the post was to show a general return for Horvat though as a rental. It really doesn't have to be Calgary as the recipient. Any contender will work.

Especially after watching 7 games of Kilngberg last playoffs he is a guy you don't want on the ice, he's noticeably doing things every shift that lead to offensive opportunities.</div></div>
I think that's actually the thing that worries me from the Ducks end...Klingberg is absolutely a dynamic offensive threat, and he has absolutely upgraded our powerplay. I just worry that his lack of savy on the defensive end might hold some teams back from paying up for him. That being said, a 2023 1st+ok prospect is what I'd hope to get back in a deal, with a 2nd+decent prospect, similar to the Manson deal, being far more likely.

I would love to see a move to get one of the big names at the deadline but I don't know if the Flames have the brass to go acquire a straight up rental player like Kane at a premium cost. It's a shame it's Vancouver having a melt down cause a Boeser, Horvat or Garland would sure look good in this line up, don't ever see that coming to be though!</div></div>

I don't see the Islanders making the Playoffs yet again this season and so they should be moving players for assets.
Mayfield is a 3rd Pairing D-Man and Pending UFA = Rental. The best you can hope for is a late 2nd, which is essentially what Anaheim got for Manson. If Mayfield wants to re-sign and go back to the Islanders in the off-season, so be it, but the Islanders would be dumb to not get anything for renting him out.
Kylington = Beauvillier 50% retained for 1 season. I compensated for the retention on the next season by sending Meloche who is an Excellent & Experienced RD RFA Prospect, who would make most NHL Teams as well. Rooney was included as a replacement player, but CGY could certainly ship him out elsewhere for the 5th should they need/choose too, no problem.</div></div>
IK who klyington is lmao. Isles r set on d tho. They aren’t trading one of their most effective wingers for a guy who would be their fifth or sixth defenseman.
