If that's the asking price, I doubt any team pulls the trigger.

I agree, especially Blues and Calgary. Giving up current NHL rookies, their top prospect and a 1st... no way

Dunn and Thomas are most likely the Blues best young players. They're not trading them along with a 1st & a 2nd for half a year of Kane.

No way are these teams going to give up those pieces for a pending UFA in Evander Kane, Unless there is a chance of resigning him for fair market price. I agree with Krakowitz that i doubt any team pulls the trigger.

I think teams are hesitant to acquire him. yes every team wants a scoring winger, but off ice issues matter as well, and we all know Kane's history off the ice. I just don't see the sabres getting a max value for him

The blueprint is about what Winnipeg got for Ladd, so for example from St. Louis you're probably looking at Barbashev, 1st, and maybe a 2nd, not a team's top two prospects and two 1sts

Right, I think Buffalo will get "top" value for him but the top value is much less than this post is implying. High end rentals are worth a 1st and prospect, adding more picks depending on how good the prospect is.

LOL at people still spouting this ancient narrative. No problems have happened since one if buffalo when he got here that resulted in pretty much nothing. Just stop trying to pull this card, the horse is already dead.

Any team who actually wants to win the cup will give up quite a lot for a goal scorer like Kane. He has so many assets: size, speed, shot, net-front presence, penalty killing, power-play, physicality. Tell me another player in the league who does all of those things as well as Kane does. Buffalo will absolutely be asking for a 1st a good prospect and maybe a 2nd for our best player

Bobby Mac reports what GM Botterill tells him guys. Whats he going to say? "Man I'd really like to get a 1st rounder so i'll take the first offer that someone gives me!"

This is a GM driving up the price on a player. Nothing less, nothing more. No team, I REPEAT, NO TEAM is paying those prices. Has any pending UFA in NHL history received that type of return?

You notice how the Insiders are very ambiguous when they report values and trades? This is precisely why. The fan bases are the only ones misconstruing these prices. The GM's aren't.

Kyle Turris, a better overall player than Kane that plays a more important position, got not even remotely this much.......

Remember when Sakic wanted a top notch young defensman (Carlo), a top prospect (McCavoy) and a 1st round pick for Duchene? You start high, and negotiate down.

Every year teams overpay. This year will be no different

Thats some serious wishful thinking, Kane's a great player who's clearly motivated by the fact its his contract year, but the reality is that every day that passes and the closer the deadline gets, the more the leverage shifts to the team the Sabres ultimately deal with. Furthermore, theres absolutely zero guarantee that Kane sees himself playing in Buffalo after this year.

Either a 1st a prospect and a lesser piece or a 2nd a top prospect and a lesser piece. I'd say the retention is worth a 3rd to the right team, but more likely Buffalo takes back a useful player with some salary, if necessary.
If they take another player, it accounts for the lesser piece. If they retain, they can gain an extra pick or upgrade the prospect if they are already getting a 1st.

Whoever this Makenzie guy is he must work for the Sabres. Kane isn't getting that much in a trade.

LOL in what world does Armstrong give up a 20 year old NHL defenseman, one of the arguably 3 best players in the OHL and 2 picks for Kane?

        This!

Hanzal was traded for a 1st - how did that work out?
Ladd was traded for a 1st - How did that work out?

Teams are starting to come to the realization that having a player for a playoff year isn't worth a potential stud in a couple years. Aside from the TDL deals that were low risk high reward, those big name deadline deals seldom are worth it.
