This is an interesting idea. It's not really all that realistic, but we can certainly discuss. I don't think BUF does the trade. AND I actually don't think they would take it even just Dahlin. Everyone here is talking about Dahlin vs Hughes. Dahlin is proven Hughes has played zero games in the NHL. You don't trade a proven #1OA for a non-proven #1OA. end of story. To me the more interesting part is that BUF has ZERO need for Barrie. BUF already has an offensive forward that lacks defensive ability in Risto. So what role would Barrie be playing? He's NOT going to be the PP quarterback. He's NOT going to be on the PK. What's his purpose on the team? Google "Tyson Barrie defense" and you'll find AVEs fans saying things like
"Barrie’s defensive style as skating backward way ahead of the rushing opponent and ineffectually waving his stick." OR
"Tyson, how hard would it be to work with a defensive coach and improve your defense? I’m sure the Avs would get you anyone you wanted that they could swing. I’m sure little Sam Girard — because size doesn’t have to be a detriment to playing good defense — could offer you some pointers. (He plays better defense without a stick than Barrie does regularly.) OR
"FOR THE LOVE OF HOCKEY, KEEP THE PUCK IN THE ZONE DURING THE POWER PLAY!!!. I’m not responsible for my words if Barrie continues to stand at the blue line while the pucks skitters past him within reach."
