He was the best rookie in the league this year.

Also Ehlers respect is nice, still a bunch of stuff I'd tweak tho

It's an aggregation of four people's opinions. I don't think there's any rhyme or reason beyond "player is under 25".

Yes, he was not that far behind offensively and was legitimately elite defensively

he was nearly as good as Hughes and Makar offensively and the only rookie really remotely close to him defensively was Marino (debatably Suzuki, but he was also kind of a black hole offensively)

Its so crazy to me that guys like Barkov, Larkin, Pasta, and Mack are all still U25 and have yet to reach their primes (theoretically)

lmao Fox was not close to Hughes and Makar offensively. Fox 42 points in 70 games, Hughes 53 points in 68 games, Makar 50 points in 57 games

No. Barkov is already too high. Pettersson is better than Point. But none of the other guys

I mean, for some of them like Matthews and Marner it just feels like they are younger because they still have that shiny new contract drama to them, whereas it feels like Barkov and Pasta have already been locked into their contracts for a while. That's just me though

Draisaitl is way too low here. He's been a top offensive player for a few years now.

Fox 3.4 GF/60, 2.56 xGF/60 1.19 p/60 (for the RANGERS)
Makar 3.71 GF/60 2.42 xGF/60 1.82 p/60
Hughes 3.07 GF/60 2.64 xGF/60 1.27 p/60
And remember shooting % above expected (having a higher GF/60 than xGF/60) is extremely reliant on forward talent, and has almost 0 repeatability among d men

(for the RANGERS)

You realize that the Rangers were just as good offensively as Colorado and Vancouver, right?

COL: 236 GF
NYR: 233 GF
VAN: 224 GF

Makes Hughes' season look more impressive. This combined with the fact that he's the youngest of the 3 and he'd be my choice for the Calder.

Take away Panarin (who Fox didn't play a TON with) and the rangers probably have less than 200 goals

Draisaitl is way too low here. He's been a top offensive player for a few years now.

Five players are ahead of Draisaitl on this list and only one is better and even that is arguable. This guy is a BEAST.

Looking at goals over the past 2 seasons among the top-6 listed above and their rank in the NHL:

2. Draisaitl: 93
4. Matthews: 84
6. MacKinnon: 76
7. McDavid: 75
15. Point: 66
17. Eichel: 64

Points over the past 2 seasons among the top-6 listed above and their rank in the NHL:

1. Draisaitl: 215
2. McDavid: 213
5. MacKinnon: 192
12. Eichel: 160
17. Point: 156
19. Matthews: 153

Goals over the past 4 seasons among the top-6 listed above and their rank in the NHL:

2. Matthews: 158
5. Draisaitl: 147
6. McDavid: 146
11. MacKinnon: 131
19. Point: 116
24. Eichel: 113

Points over the past 4 seasons among the top-6 listed above and their rank in the NHL:

1. McDavid: 421
3. Draisaitl: 362
6. MacKinnon: 342
20. Matthews: 285
22. Eichel: 281
31. Point: 262

There's no excuse for having Draisaitl 6th on this list. He is #1 for points over the past 2 years and #2 behind only Ovechkin for goals, so the lame excuse that he's riding McDavid's coattails doesn't hold water anymore.

And if you look at the past 4 years he's no lower than 5th in the NHL in either category and top 2 in this group.

Every team can say that. For instance Panarin was involved in about 40% of the Rangers offense, about the same percentage that MacKinnon was involved in Colorado's offense.

If anything this fact makes Hughes look even better than I previously thought.
