Well now that we’re a bit in, looking back at my official bracket, picking Avs, Vegas, Boston all seem to have done great, Pens, Leafs, Canes all have done good while Oilers and Panthers looking like busts

Oilers still have a solid shot at winning but yeah the panthers probably aren’t coming back, and I had them in the cup final

I made 3 actual trying brackets and all had Avs in at least round 2, and then 1 fun bracket where Habs win the cup because why not

Dang, that sucks.
Not because I like the caps, but because I stupidly had them winning the cup in one of my 3 brackets (the one I made for this site).

I obviously hate the caps as a Canes fan, but it is a bit sad to see them lose so quick in one of their last years of contending.

I had Boston winning, but in 7. This series was pretty darn fun to watch though.

I had Washington in 6 as Rasks numbers against them in the past were not the greatest

in truth they kind of shot themselves in the foot with both the Oshie turnover this game and the OT misplay by Samsonov

I agree, as someone who dislikes both teams (mostly Boston, they are probably my least favourite team, not a huge caps fan either), this was my favourite to watch in the first few games.

Yzerman continues to win. Best case scenario for Washington's first round pick. God he's a genius

Why am I not surprised to have turned off the game at 4-1 only to see online it's in OT at 4-4.

Harnarayan Singh is great to listen to over any of the American commentators I've heard.

Some guy on the NBC Washington/Boston game called Tampa the "Lightning Bolts"

also "chicken mcnugget minute of the third"

not anymore they dont 3-0

they blew it, this was their chance had a 4-1 lead in the third and they blew it.

Oilers be in big trouble, Holland 95% is getting fired if they lose tomorrow

Panthers, maybe

Why is every team I cheer for so I’m the playoffs disappointing? Well at least there’s always the 2018 Washington Capitals. And the 2019 Sharks and 2018 Jets had a good run.

RIP the 2017 Capitals, 2017 Habs, 2017 Oilers*, 2019 Jets, 2019 Capitals, 2020 Oilers, 2020 Jets, 2020 Capitals, 2021 Capitals, 2021 Oilers, and likely the 2021 Panthers.

*This one is less disappointing, and more extremely frustrating.

*Tippett

regardless he's probably not going to because he's given the oilers the most amount of playoff appearances under one coaching tenure since mactavish sooooooooooooo

it's also not his fault (or holland's really) that they have a saloon-door defense

Do you think Tippett and Holland just get paid to eat f*cking popcorn and watch the team? It's 100% on them: one assembled the roster and the other continues to ice a suboptimal roster. Tippett thinks "winning is hard". Holland thinks "you can't go for it every year". As far as I'm concerned both men should be drawn and quartered come sunrise. Shoot them at sundown for good measure. Every part of me wants to tell you to blow it out of your ass but that would be misdirected anger. It's not your fault and you don't deserve that.

The Oilers making the playoffs this year - hell let's give them credit for last year too - has SFA to do with Dave Tippett. Not an ounce of it is on him: this team has two active Hart Trophy winners. Career years from players last year and this year pushed Edmonton over the hump. Tippett has a losing playoff record with Edmonton and in his entire career. Phoenix never did anything unless Smith bailed them out. Now the Oilers don't accomplish anything unless McDavid and Draisaitl are firing on all cylinders. Even then it's not a guarantee.

I've been angry with this team. Frustrated. Apathetic. Disappointed. I don't even have words for how I feel right now. Betrayed? Ashamed? I'm at a loss as to why I hitched my wagon to this team when I was younger. It's been over 4 years since Chiarelli destroyed the roster and the club still hasn't figured out a damn thing about fixing it. Holland has no plan. No gumption. It's a paycheck to him. Anything less than firing *everybody* will only demonstrate this. We're year 6 into McDavid's career and the Oilers have ONE more official playoff victory (7) than McDavid has seasons under his belt. It's embarrassing. I genuinely want him and Draisaitl to request a trade after Winnipeg puts this Mickey Mouse franchise out of its misery tomorrow.

The two superstars deserve so much better than what this organization has forced them to work with. The fans even more so.

My earliest conscious memory of this godforsaken team is when Conklin beat the brakes off of Nurminen in 2004. My dad and I watched that game together. The high water mark remains losing in 2006 and drafting McDavid. It's been 15 years since this team did anything meaningful and about 20 years since they were consistently decent. I've made it through 8 years of post-secondary school: I grew up while this team spun its wheels. They've accomplished nothing. Childhood me could have never imagined that I'd be damn near entering fatherhood - not too distant from the point in life my dad was at when he and I watched that game in 2004 - before they tried to be good again.

Like why do I bother?
