I recall that AHLTV is like super cheap this season. I think they have a deal for x number of games that costs less than a typical McDonalds order.

So I may or may not have someone ahead of Wright currently but we’ll see if it stays that way before I publish my next rankings ( there’s no way he’d do ahead of Wright IRL, but I prefer his game, Wright WJC’s performance opened 1 a lot )

I don’t think it’s fair to judge him that harshly for 2 games where he played fine, just not great and didn’t get any points.

Yeah I know but Wright’s season has been a bit underwhelming, he still has the talent though

He’s not putting up gaudy numbers but he’s still at ~1.25 points per game which is pretty good, and his main draw has always been how complete his game is, particularly for his age, and his elite shot. Logan Cooley isn’t putting up enough numbers to overcome Wright’s elite 2-way game/size advantage and he’s the only guy that might be even somewhat of a threat to Wright going 1st as the only other true centre in the high end of the draft (Savoie projects more as a winger at the NHL level, whereas Wright/Cooley could both be a 1C). Unless you’re willing to overlook Slafkovsky’s inconsistency (not sure I can at this point), are a big fan of his raw tools (which I personally am), and think he could slide to centre (which I’m not sold on, which is why I think he’s probably not going top 3).

This draft is still a crap shoot, too many players who are close in the rankings, then there’s also the very polarizing players like Miro, Geekie, McGroarty, Hutson, etc, this draft will be one to watch

I think Miro and Lambert are the most interesting cases because you can realistically argue they should go anywhere from like 4 to 15. Geekie will probably end up going pretty high (low top 10 likely) because too many teams value big centres, even if he tops out as a 2C. I do think that Wright at 1 remains the thing you can bet on though, it’s not every day you get a talented centre that projects as a first line guy with an NHL frame, elite shot, and very good 2-way game. He’s a top 9 centre in the NHL next year guaranteed, and should be a 1C within 3 years. If Cooley goes on an insane second half heater and ups his production to like 2ppg then maybe he’ll have a shot at bumping Wright, but nobody else is even close to #1. It’s the rest of the top 10 that’s interesting from a chaos perspective, not the first pick.

Yeah, realistically Wright is still at 1, guys like Cooley, Nemec, Jiricek, will go high because position of need, Kemell, Savoie are in the mix, then you have guys like Yurov, Nazar, Geekie, McGroarty, Lambert, Miro, Lekkerimaki, etc

I’m starting to differ a little from Wheeler’s list. Oilers were 19 (I had them 5 higher), and Flyers are minimum 6 higher than I had them (if they’re tomorrow’s team). Everything else has been within 3 though which is kinda cool

Try not to be too much of a homer on here but Dubas and the Leafs scouting team has found incredible value with late 2nd round picks.

Sean Durzi 2018 52nd
Nick Robertson 2019 53rd
Roni Hirvonen 2020 59th
Matthew Knies 2021 57th

If only he was in charge of the drafts instead of Hunter

Not trying to be a Leafs Homer, but

Matthew Knies 0 NHL GP
Roni Hirvonen 0 NHL GP
Nick Robertson 6 NHL GP
Sean Durzi 24 NHL GP (0 with the Leafs)

None of these picks have been hits yet until they become full time NHL players. You can do this with any teams 2nd round picks. It's just leaf fans overhyping their own prospects.

Meanwhile Hunter and Lou just be going for the biggest guy out there and wasted 3 years of our sanity lul

Like no joke compare Hunter and Lou's draft history with us vs. Dubas. (Minus 1st round as its not fair when the picks were top 10)
