I feel as if price would have one shot with Edmonton before that contract started to tear apart the roster. I’m ignoring nuge being included here just because zero chance of that happening.

Nobody accepts. What’s with MTL fans and the thought that a 34yo goalie with multiple years of a cap hit of $10M+ has any value? COL isn’t accepting that package.

RHN and his NMC doesn't waive. Even if the Oilers like the trade this season, Price's cap hit is way too much for Oilers or virtually any team. Oilers keep RHN and find a 5m goalie next season

Yeah cause what contending team wants a goalie who is capable of carrying an extremely weak team to the cup finals?! That is ridiculous, I mean of he can carry Montreal with all their weaknesses to the cup finals last season he wouldn't be able to be the final peice a team with goaltending question marks past the first round! You do realize how ridiculous that sounds don't you?! I mean the Avs need an upgrade in goal to be considered serious contenders as do the Oilers the rest of their rosters are pretty strong and have been for 3 or 4 years now. Price could very well be the guy that pushes each of those teams over the top. Even IF he is only good for 3 of the last 5 years on his contract, that still gives the Avs and Oil 3 really good shots at a cup. That is worth more to any team in win now mode than the cap hit 3-5 years from now is.

Yeah because everybody wants a$10.5M 34yr old goalie, what is so hard to understand about that? Where is Price right now? Not playing. Who in their right mind wants to be on the hook for that cap # for that many years?

Price just makes too much. The contract is crippling for a team like Edmonton.

If Price is traded, it should be for futures and have significant retention. You retain $5M and consider it the cost of doing business, then you trade him for a 1st and a couple prospects and take back $5Mish in unwanted cap.
Means you can't sign two goalies over $5M for a few years.

I can prove you wrong with just one name, Marc-Andre Fleury! 36 years old 7 Mil cap hit AND was just traded to a Chicago team who were looking to contend! Teams don't care about future cap hit if they are trying to contend, all they do care about is can the player being brought in make the team better right now and give us a better shot at winning a cup RIGHT NOW. The answer to these questions with regard to Price is a resounding YES he can. If a team wants to contend right now and are lacking a goalie they will pay for Price and figure out the cap down the road. They always have and always will do this. Price may not be worth 10.5 mil for his regular seasons over the past 3 years but he has been worth every penny once the playoffs rolled around. That is why he still has value around the league amongst GM's and players and why fans opinions are so off base.

Teams don’t care about cap LMFAO. MAF has one year left on his deal not 5 and how has that worked out for CHI so far? No team is trading tangible assets for a 34yr old $10.5M cap hit goalie that even isn’t playing. I know you wear blue and red tinted glasses but Seattle could have had him for free and passed. Making the cap work for a year sure, making it work for 5 you’re kidding yourself if you think teams don’t care.

Francis came out and said himself that until the news of Prices injury broke he was seriously considering taking him. Seattle passed because MB out maneuvered Francis in stating Price was likely to miss the season, not because of his contract. Please read my statement again, I said teams don't care about the cap hit 5 years from now if the player coming in can help them now. Price makes any contending team with goal tending issues better. Players and GM's already say that Price is one of the best in the league, it's the fans who have issue with his contract.

i think the start with toffoli is good but adding pick, depth-d and prospect or goalie back up, and not chariot that's not what they are looking for.

Brodeur went to a cup final at 40.... this obsession with aging curves is really not based on any data oriented anaylsis. Goalie aging curves are not reliable - as much evidence that Price will be as good at end of contract as he is now, as otherwise.

Nobody wants to be on the hook for that contract what is so hard to understand? Using different era examples without a cap and the trap isn’t real nobody is taking on Prices contract.
