This guy is barely good enough for the AHL Get rid of him at any cost

Created by: gary_bettman
Team: 2021-22 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 15, 2021
Published: Nov. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Anyone else notice how the team got substantially worse when Vlasic came back from protocol? He and Simek crapped all over the new identity the team started the year with.

Clearly Ryan Merkley and Santeri Hatakka should replace Vlasic and Simek. they we're 5x better.

Vlasic has a 3 team trade list starting in 2 years. That's the tough part. If SJS could trade him away for that...they would have by now.

I know. We need to buy him out but we also have to buy out Kane. Vlasic is so bad it's gross.

Would cost more to move Vlasic. A 2022 1st and a 2023 2nd instead of the 2024 1st probably convinces Arizona to buy him out

I feel like, no matter what the picks are, the Yotes are one of the last teams in the league that would have interest in eating that much money long term. Do they have room to do it? Sure. But $34+mil is absolutely not something that a financially f*cked team wants on the books.

Wiesblatt was a 1st. That's already 2 1sts

Vlasic needs another defensive minded guy and the Sharks have not given him that.

Also, Simek seems to have never been the same after that knee injury.

They would be all over a 2022 1st.

Problem is they've still got to pay him $20ish million dollars on a buyout. Arizona's plan *should* be to continue to save teams from their bad cap hits by taking short term/low salary deals.

Don’t think Chicago touches that trade. It’s the term that kills it for me, I think you’ll probably want to bury him in the minors if he’s really that bad cap hit Is much less.

Simek is better than he's been. Anyone paired with Vlasic is going to look bad.

Arizona will happily eat contracts with a year or two of term left at pretty much any rate, but the dollar figure and term left on vlasic’s deal is just way too much to justify only getting a few picks or prospects out of it. They’re trying to keep the cap clean until they can make a run at Matthews, these big money deals with a ton of term don’t make sense with the way they’re rebuilding

I would like to see MEV and Simek not on the sharks but not at this cost. It shouldn’t cost a prospect and a 3rd to move simek and if it does, just send him down until his contract expires. MEV is a different story, but I still wouldn’t give up the equivalent to two first round picks to move him. The sharks just don’t have the organizational depth to send away higher level prospects and high picks. I wish they did to move these guys

Merkley made some nice defensive plays too, always underrated how players like him use their active stick and read the play to break up incoming offense

Blichfield is a near point per game AHLer tho

Just entering his prime currently

Simek barely counts 1M$ buried

Can be unloaded easily too

Not sure why SJ would spend so much to unload him

I just don’t think there’s enough room in Chicago for his contract.

Simek is better than he currently looks I suppose playing with Vlasic hurts him.

Yeah I agree with that. That line just needs to be changed anyway, I don’t even care at this point. Maybe they do a rotating third line with whoever is hot similar to the goalie position.

Hattaka was way more defensively sound than Vlasic and can actually skate. Merkley even though a bit raw holds more NHL value than those two.

biggest things for teams "eating" deals to consider is 1) is this a bounceback candidate type player. 2) how much actual money is owed vs term x cap. for a team like arizona, the real money is a big question. I look back to them moving OEL. it took retention and trading a quality player to move him. I think SJS can move kane before they can move vlasic right now. team should really look into moving burns too while he can still produce.

Burns is going nowhere, he is proving he is still more than effective, he is still elite. Kane can be moved and Vlasic bought out. It's simpler than it looks.
Burnsy is 36 and outplaying most 25 year old dmen. He will retire a shark.

that's the point though if he is producing well and looks good move him for positive value, san jose is no where close to competing for a cup so why be that in the middle of the park team getting 12-16 overall picks. you might aswell clear house allow younger players to receive better opportunities and also get better draft picks. i am sure there is a win now team that would be willing to give up a 1st if san jose retains like 1 mill a year or takes on a cap dump.

kane will cost to be moved way to many on and off ice issues lots of team pride themselves on having a good locker room atmosphere especially playoff contenders and i doubt you will see a bottom 10 team trade for kane as he will only make them better.

buying out vlasic will also suck as who wants to pay upwards of 3 mill+/yr for 5 years just for him not even to be on your roster, again with the place san jose is in i doubt think there is a massive rush to free cap to sign better players san jose needs to think about a massive retool and try to build all over again around the likes of bordeleau, weisblatt, eklund, merkley, ferraro, hill, meier

Its one game back after being off for 2 weeks. Simek will be better and if not i think he can be moved in the summer. Vlasic we are stuck with him. we will buy out Kane and Vlasic should be stuffed in the press box.
