You're over-valuing Fleury a bit, and probably JVR too. Is he a massive upgrade over Hagelin? I don't think so, but he is somewhat of an upgrade. Not sure that difference is worth a second and Pouliot.

Overvaluing a bit?! Fleury couldn't get moved at the deadline for a bag of pucks. JVR is significantly better than Hagelin, Pouliot is not a good player, and a late round 2nd doesn't hold much value.

A bit? haha You mean insanely. Fleury is an overpaid backup. Tanev is a top pairing shutdown dman.

And JVR is a 30 goal scorer that gets over 50 points. Hagelin has never broke 38 points or 17 goals.

Overpay for JVR - he's a pigeon.. Also, slow down there ClockReads he isn't a yearly 30 goal scorer he's only done it once so not he is not very good (PIT got fleeced on that deal).

Fluery deal doesn't hapen either - pretty sure VAN is giving up too much.

Toronto would never make that trade this off-season. It makes their current roster worse and they're a playoff team, not just starting a rebuild. Pouliot may eventually turn into an NHL regular, but now he clearly belongs in the AHL. If Toronto regresses and is a seller at the '18 deadline, only then does this trade look reasonable. (Pens give up Haglelin to make salaries work).

NickC is likely underestimating Fleury's trade value during the off-season (which is totally different compared to the in-season deadline), but he's still probably only worth a 3rd or 4th rounder at best. But ignoring the price of acquiring Fleury... why would Vancouver even want him? Markstrom is fine and cheap. The slight upgrade they'd get in goal with Fleury isn't worth much to a team that still has a lot of other high priced talent on their roster and lots of RFA's to sign.

I'm not underestimating at all. Nobody wants him before the expansion draft let alone knowing he will go through buy out waivers and get bought out by Pittsburgh. Why trade for him when you can probably sign him for 2 million after he gets bought out?

Leafs reject easily. Pouliot is a bust. Hagelin isn't that great. JVR is a #1 LW on most teams

So none of Calgary, Buffalo, or Winnipeg, none of which have a starter-caliber goaltender under contract for next year, would have any interest? Even if the Pens retained, say $2 in salary (roughly the equivalent of the buyout cost)? I'm going to have to disagree. Low trade value maybe, "nobody wants him" is hyperbole.

Ben Bishop, Scott Darling, Steve Mason. That's 3 free agents that won't require trading for.

Why is Pittsburgh going to buy him out in the offseason if they can't find a trade partner? Wouldn't you want to keep the goalie who is supposedly better than "2/3 of those players"? Why not make a deal with Vegas so they don't select him? Does Calgary even need a goalie? Elliott seems to have found his game anyway.

Leafs are would be weak on LW without JVR's replacement. Leafs pass on the Hagelin cap dump. Leafs could use JVR an need be trade him at the tradeline without taking money back.
With that retention, it in effect makes Fleury a 7m dollar goalie. No one takes that deal. And if Vancouver made the deal they would have to expose Markstrom and lose him. Sorry Pens fans, the total picture has looked at for the value of Fleury, and until after the expansion it ain't very high.

Well there are 30 #1 LWers in the league (thought I hate the numbering system). He probably is the Leafs, top LWer, and heck he might be with if Pens or Flyers if deals were made.

Toronto did pretty good with that Luke Schenn for JVR deal if you ask me.

I could actually see the Canucks taking an interest in trading for Fleury, depending on Miller's ask for term on a new deal. Management doesn't seem sold on Markstrom's ability to be a starter yet. Having said that there's no way they trade Tanev for Fleury, let alone retain money. There are going to be a lot of goalies looking for work and only so many starter's roles to fill, so the return on Fleury won't be as good as Pens fans would like.

Well I guess if you are going by the numbering system then year I guess you could count him by default but that doesn't factor in teams that might have 1 or 2 better LWs than him. He might be on the Flyers depending on their lineup shape, but I'd take Schenn and TK over him personally. I was more just commenting because someone earlier is trying to claim he is a 30 goal scorer every year and that is not the case. All i said, and this IMO, is he is a pigeon just like B. Schenn on the Flyers. Lastly, I know he is doing great form a points perspective this year, but I could easily pick 30 LWers I'd rather have - but he has had a great career so far and I wish him and the Leafs luck in the playoffs.

Nate: I'm not a big JVR fan. And hope that the Leafs move on from him after his contract in summer of 2018. Leafs do go with balanced lines this year, so kinda by production,,,,he's the # 1 Leaf LWer, by default
But it looks like the Leafs need him for now....certainly over Hagelin. The Leafs have "a lot" of winger prospects. Only Kapanen seems to be NHL good. The rest a lot of maybees IMO.
