CJ and Dreger on Leafs

Created by: bald_and_bankrupt
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2022
Published: Jan. 25, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dreger: The Maple Leafs are among many teams who have at least kicked tires on Chychrun, but you look at the Maple Leafs roster, how they move forward, it seems like a tough fit for the Maple Leafs to try and maneuver unless Dubas gets extraordinarly creative.

CJ: Chris Johnston on Insider Trading says Leafs may be considering acquiring players with some term at the deadline rather than trading for players with expiring contracts like they did last year

You know Murphy's not a rental right? That probably doesn't land Murphy

Just to be fair - Dregs has no clue what he's talking about. Ends every report with "we'll just have to see what happens, maybe he'll get moved and maybe we won't"

Let's have a look to see how Connor Murphy is doing before entering that new contract with a higher aav and term next season:
zk0ISNv.png

Easy pass for the Leafs. Plays a high amount against top competition and is among the worst in the league at it.

And now you lose Campbell. How are you going to do your resigns with Murphy, and Reilly having extensions?

Until next season happens, you don't worry about it

Isn't that lousy reporting that says absolutely nothing? Of course the Leafs have "kicked tires" on every player that might be traded. Certainly doesn't mean they really have a interest in any Dman with has bigger long term cap....,which includes Murphy and Chychrun.
Wow, you think the Leafs want a 20 man roster next year? Reilly gets a 2.5m raise, Murphy a 600,000 raise. Leafs are zillions times better off keeping Dermot and Liljgren at a combined 2.5m, and keeping their first rounder. Ritchie might cost a second to get rid.

I’m not worried as I don’t care if the leafs suck, but good luck signing everyone. There is no way you are going to be able to. And trading Marner is fine and all however I don’t see them doing it, but he is making just south of 11M. You will have to take on some cap anyway.

If Liljegren is in the Leafs defense by start of the playoffs, all hope will be gone. Am I the only one that saw him get walked on by a 36 year old? Liljegren should be ready next season

"You will have to take on some of the cap anyway", teams will be lining up for Marner if he ever becomes available

Of course the Leafs are looking. But they aren't going to take on 4.5m long term contracts. Is there a upcoming UFA whose cap can be retained?
Gee, I saw the Leafs" saviour. John. Klinberg get walked by last week."

Or, if you looked a little closer, you'd see that he starts 70% of his shifts in the defensive zone so looking at Corsi is going to put him in a negative light. His xGA is above average and he plays 22 minutes a night in all situations. Hes not jesus but if you've watched a hawks game you would know stats arent going to do him justice.

and he gets his head kicked in in his own end. if you start your time in that zone and you cant get it out of the zone you are not good at defence

Even just a cursory glance at this tells me I shouldn't pay much attention to you. No one starts 70% of their shifts in the defensive end because it's simply not how the flow of a hockey game works.

He starts 36% of his shifts in the offensive end ... that's not starting 70% of his shifts in the defensive end. You completely ignore his neutral zone starts(140 of his 310, the biggest contributor among the zones) and portray them all to be in the defensive end.

Of course, but that’s not the solution. He makes too much. You will have to take on a lot of cap. What good team has 11M in extra cap? Nobody does… with this scenario, you won’t be able to resign Campbell. It’s the truth.

i mean if the leafs lose round 1 again Dubas knows he could lose his job. Oftentimes, for better or worse, GMs swing for the fences and sacrifice a bit of future when their job is on the line. Not saying i'd like to do this and lose Campbell but that approach is not uncommon

For sure, but then you have no goalie. Wouldn’t be smart for both the team, and the GM. You guys are cap strapped.. Dubas may have to pull off something big in order to get passed the first round.

You're such a goof. Just living in the dead puck era wishing Luke Richardson was our best defenceman. Just love those slow big beasts who don't do anything in this era.

Bingo and further, if you consider his partner and watched the games, you would know where the missed the assignments happen. Murphy is hardly the problem

Try watching a dozen of the games he plays and you'll have a clue what you're talking about. Your narrative is incredible miss on accuracy due to a complete reliance on stats that no coach or GM relies on more then the eye test for good reason. Let's hope if you give your eyes a chance they are better then your narrative your pushing here.

no, you try watching a dozen of the games he plays in and you'll hav a clue what you are talking about. Your narrative is incredible miss on accuracy due to a complete reliance on homer vision and ignoring any evidence that disagrees with what you think you see that no coach or gm who is good at their job does for good reason. Lets hope you give your eyes a break and look at him like a neutral fan so they are better than your narrative you are pushing here

I watch 99% of every game the Hawks play and know exactly when players are on the ice, what situation they are put into when on the ice, and who they are on a line with. My narrative is also supported by every analyst view of Murphy, guys who make a living watching and analyzing the game that he's a flat out a big, physical, shot blocking (ranks #3 in the league), top 3 or 4 D man on 90% of NHL teams. But go ahead and argue with every analyst because you figured out how to use your fingers on a keyboard and pull up CORSI; well done.

bahaha, you come here throwing shot block numbers and wanna act like corsi is bad? sure thing bud, you're a massive homer and your defender isnt good. Keep him and enjoy watching a guy who is a massive part of a bottom 3 defensive team in the league for like the past 3 years runnng.
