Paul rejected the Sens offer of 2.5 per for 4 years.

That was a more than fair offer tbh. If that's not good enough, then he should 100% be dealt. Greig is coming soon, Pinto will be healthy next year, and guys like Sokolov or whoever we draft in the 1st round might be pushing for a spot too. Hopefully we can get a 2nd for him. Or maybe a 1st if we retain and give back a 3rd or something (like the Goodrow deal). If it's Edmonton we could do Paul+Forsberg for a 1st maybe. I'm definitely more inclined to sell high on Forsberg while we can.

Well, that was a swap of 1sts, not an actual loss of 2 1sts, meaning that the Jackets only actually gained one 1st when it was all said and done.

How much does he think hes worth jesus.

Like 2.5mill x 4 years should be fine for him

At most 2.75mill x 4 years is what I would give

Any more is an overpay

Didnt the other 1st not transfer because Duchene didnt extend in Columbus

So does it really count

He’s the kind of guy you put him on McDavid man to man in OT but his offensive production doesn’t indicate he’s worth more than a Foegele

Hagel got two firsts(+). We're talking about half of that for Lehkonen. It's not that much of an overpay.

I have doubts about any more 1sts being available. There would be players above Lehkonen to get them. Which is fine, because Montreal would prefer a prospect (RHD especially). You might see a 1st for Giroux or Lindholm.

Tampa and Florida are cleaned out and they were in the biggest arms race. Colorado should be making a move to pace Calgary given their injuries.

Only Edmonton or Toronto in addition, could realistically justify moving a 1st at this point, because they are desperate for any kind of playoff success.

Vegas and Carolina might see minor tweaks, other teams may make minor adds or players with term, or look to address weaknesses at cheap prices. Hard to justify going all in on a rental when you've already lost the arms race.

yknow dont get me wrong lehky is a nice depth piece. but hes depth. the teams that are getting this guy are looking for 3rd liners. they arent gunna pay him a 1st to hope hes a top 6 forward. teams with firsts left like you said are getting G or Lindholm or guys with term. even andrew copp, i think in a down market year for forwards i could see him getting a first but hes not getting one this year.

2.5mil is already an overpay lol. NHL GMs are really losing their minds and treating 3rd line defensive specialists like gods when in reality they're everywhere. Goodrow-esque players are not uncommon lol (Jarnkrok already moved, Paul and Lehkonen in rumours, most teams have good defensive bottom six players already, e.g. Kampf, ZAR, Nichuskin, Fast, Bellemare, GREEF line, etc.).

I’ll take him. Could be a good Paul replacement for 1 year.

1 of the best all around defenseman in the league imo

I’m sorry but that’s a lot for someone like Schueneman who has limited NHL experience and has 3rd pair at best upside

Lmao, you paid 2 FIRSTS for HAGEL? Holy cow, Tampa’s doing it again, let’s hope this overpay pays off like Goodrow, Savard and Coleman

^My thoughts on the Hagel trade

i dont blame them but leafs are going to have a hard time making moves if their 1sts are off limits along with knies and for obvious reasons amirov

knies might be on the roster this season and is very good. i'd rather the team keep him over trading him

I feel like we shouldn't be helping them clear cap room though. If we get one of Justin Barron, Martin Kaut, or the 2023 1st in the deal for Paul I would be ecstatic. The 2024 2nd would be okay too, but at that point it's more of a trade chip for the future Sens that are good, rather than an asset we're likely to use to draft a prospect. Getting just a 3rd, or a 3rd + worse prospect than Kaut would be disappointing (which basically means I'd be hoping for Olausson or Kaut + a mid-round pick lol). If we do get Barron, I'd hope we immediately turn around and make a run at Boeser with Jarventie + one of our RD prospects (Thomson/JBD/Barron) as the base of the package.

Burning a year off Knies ELC would be a mistake. Abruzzese sure.

I’d rather call up Steeves, Seney, Suomela

Paul also plays centre. Suddenly 3 mill doesn’t look bad when you have a big power forward who can defend as your 3C. Not sure of his faceoffs % but he’s been pretty good at centre on a checking line

I still think Stephenson's deal is the best if the team puts Paul at center.

So 2.75m x 4 or 5 years whatever it was

Stephenson is a good middle 6C where as Paul can’t play top 6

Knies and Niemela were not going anywhere lets be honest unless it was for a guy with significant term and value. Like Garland for instance (not saying it was happening just saying you dont give up top prospects for rentals or 1 year term)
