I do sub to the Athletic though, and I just checked Dom’s player cards and apparently it’s his offense that’s below average (but not bottom third), while his defense remains above average (but not top third). Solid 2-way guy still. Dom did peg his market value at 6.7mil this year. I wouldn’t go that high on his next deal because he’s gonna be 29 when his next contract kicks in, but maybe 5.5-6mil on a 5 year term.


The goaltending might have brought those analytics down because from what I saw, Severson looked solid defensively.

They've wanted a guy with Dubois's frame, talent, pedigree & birth province ever since Vincent Damphousse. If such a player is made available I understand why they're after him

I think there are a lot of discussions happening within the teams right now. Not a lot of salary available and players are looking for money. I suspect Pittsburgh will be signing one of those top defenders left to temporarily replace Marino

Their Crosby-Malkin-Letang window is closing quickly, and Petry is better than Marino right now so it makes sense depending on the price

Petry will easily be their 2nd best defender. Long term the contract is shaky, but they just gave Letang 6 years and Malkin 4, so I don't think they care

Not sure what he mentioned, but it should be 1st round pick or equivalent, but seeing that players like Pacioretty and Burns were pretty much cap dumps, I don't think we'd get that.

Genuinely wouldn't hate a Petry for Matheson straight swap. We get more salary space and Matheson is in his prime wheras Petry is likely going to start regressing.

I won’t even be surprised if he fetched a first ++ with the way this offseason has been going. Honestly wouldn’t mind him getting overpaid for because it would drive up Tyler Myers’ price
