At least 5 mill, Dobson’s contract alone will be in the 5.5-7 mill range

Colorado would have an easier time signing him than the isles. The Isles have to move out at least two players to sign him.

but josh bailey can be moved for the same price as oliver bjorkstrand 🙄

Lou said he doesn’t want to move him, but something has to give. They’d have to trade Brock Nelson to fit in Kadri in both fit/AAV. Barzal and Nelson aren’t moving to wing

i think before the deadline or early in the offseason it’s possible he could have went for a late rd pick, now the market has been set and it would cost at least 2nd to move

Yeah I just don’t see the fit, I think he goes back to COL on a 1 year deal like Klingberg then cashes in next year, but then he’ll be 32 almost 33 so idk

I think he goes back to COL on a 1 year deal, but I think hell get another extension with them when they get Mackinnon and other trades sorted out

That would be hilarious if true, because Toews > Kadri by a country mile

Trade a top pair D to sign a 32 YO 4th liner coming off a career year

there is just no room for him in colorado after this season. mack, byram and newhook are gonna eat what's left of the cap. girard/lehky will have to go.

Devils gave Palat 6 mill x 5 but won’t pay Jesper Bratt what he’s worth on a long term deal. You can make the argument that Bratt is their best player and worth 8.5 mill per. It would probably take 7.5 mill to get him signed for 6-7 years

I think he would take less to go back to Colorado . How much less I’m not sure. Isles have too many untradeable players and Dobson/Barzal/Wahlstrom all due for new contracts by next season, Sorokin the year after.

Nelson is one of only realistic player who can go to make room for Kadri and he just scored 37 goals last season , plus he has. Modified no trade clause

Don't make me turn into the Jesper Bratt downplayer (I love the guy), but there is no way that he's worth 8.5 million a year, at least not yet-he was a mid 3rd liner before his terrific showing last year. I'd give him 7 million x 8 at most for now.

Agreed that they definitely should've prioritized his extension over signing Palat.

whatever kadri signs for the avs would need to move that plus girard. so you're looking at 2 of lehky manson, or nuke.

I cam really see the Bratt deal being one where arbitration does both sides a lot of good: Bratt is going to get something that resembles a raise while the Devils won't have to gamble on term until they know exactly what Bratt is.

I think you can look directly to the Victor Olofsson extension as a very likely outcome. Something around $5M at two years. After that Bratt can prove what he is and be paid accordingly afterwards.

Bratt was a 2nd line caliber forward prior to this season. His underlying numbers + his production rate were at a 2nd line level. I’m not saying to give him 8.5 mill , I’m saying you can justify it because of how good he was last season. It was no fluke, he didn’t get lucky. If he’s asking for 7.5-8 mill on a long term deal you give it to him

I wouldn't give it to him yet. I'm still not sold on whether last season was a harbinger of things to come or not. If he does it again this year (which I think he will, to be clear), I'd pull the trigger.

If Bratt reaches a PPG again , he’s getting in the 8.25-8.75 mill range on a long term deal. I’d rather take the “risk” and give him 7.5 mill now.

I guess that's where we disagree-I'd be willing to risk having to add another $1 million to the AAV in a year rather than fork over that much to a guy who's put up over 35 points in a season once.

You have to bet on talent. The best teams succeed because they have stars making below market value. If MacKinnon was making 13+, Kadri was making 6-7, and Nuke was making 6.125 do the Avs win the cup this year? Probably not because that means you lose 3 other solid roster players

With Klingberg finally signing, I put him at 135 in my fantasy rankings for this year (Tanner Jeannot is at 134, Rasmus Dahlin is at 136). Now I just need Kadri to sign (and maybe Kane to get traded) to complete the top 250.

Last year was shortened season, he was on pace for 53 pts as a 22 YO

But it's also true that the bad teams get worse because they're stuck with bad contracts. I want to see Bratt prove last year was no fluke (which I don't think it was, to be clear) before giving him a 7+ million AAV.

Which is very good, but not worth $7 million a year. Being a PPG player definitely is, which is why I'd want to see him do it again before locking him up for that much.

(BTW, I actually do think Bratt will prove that last year was no fluke-I expect him to have another 65+ point season. I still think it's too early to bet on it though.)
