It is with regret that I announce that my time here on CapFriendly has come to an end. While I've enjoyed my time on here immensely, I feel that CF is taking up too much of my time, and that the best thing for me to do is to stop using the forums. I will not delete my account, but I will in all likelihood not post on here again.

Thanks to @Banks one more time.

Saw NHL voting where people think the teams will finish

The Atlantics made me go huh and also gave me a chuckle

As they somehow voted it to where Toronto, Florida, and Tampa will finish 1st or 2nd but there is no 3rd and 4th place top votes for any of the remaining teams but instead every other team was voted to finish in the 5,6, and 7 range.

Meanwhile in every other division it was more balanced. Well k the Pacific was all over the place

Nobody knows how the Atlantic will finish, it's a complete wildcard. 1/2/3 is between Toronto/Tampa/Florida and then it's anybodies guess.

I feel like the 2nd round and 3rd round of the draft is when you should swing for the fences and take a boom or bust prospect. Like say super skilled guys that fell because of size or inconsistency . (Raty, Debrincat , Stankoven , Hutson). The 2nd round is always full of gems.

I would even put Florida into the "anybody's guess" category.

Look I love Tkachuk; but they were already in a huge cap crunch and lost a lot of their depth. Marchment and Weegar gone in addition to their pre-existing defensive holes that Chiarot did not fix temporarily.

Looking at all the teams lineups and the Panthers are now a 2-line team with questionable team defense and pretty good goaltending. You could say the same thing about Boston (injuries), Ottawa, and Detroit (not sure about the goaltending). And we don't even know if Barkov and Tkachuk will have chemistry. Certainly Tkachuk was good, but never broke out in Calgary with Bennett on his line if that is the direction they go; but that was with Backlund as their center in more of a matchup line.

Detroit Ottawa Buffalo Florida Boston is going to be a blood bath worth focusing on.

I don’t think either three will be bad and it’ll just be who can scrape out the most tough wins.

Cholowski has one of the most interesting career arcs in a long while.

Yeah it’s definitely been an up and down career. He’s struggled defensively in the NHL , hes decent at driving offense and has good finishing ability. If he can clean up his defensive play , he can be a 3rd pair puck mover in the NHL.

Would Montreal signing one of Dumba or Severson in free agency next year be considered rushing the rebuild?

I think it comes down to their goaltending next year.

Their defense is fairly set with Edmundson-Matheson-Guhle on the left side and they have Savard-Barron on the right; so one more RHD could make a big difference. Feels like they need a Power-Play QB type of blueliner at this point with that group as only Guhle is likely to be one).

Honestly, their forward group is really deep; just a lot of guys that are on "redemption tours" or whatever for this year clogs it up. This year's trade deadline and the rolling off of some of those deals will free up cap space and roster spots for young guys like Slafkovsky to step up. If Jake Allen is gone and Carey Price's career is over then their "rebuild" revolves around goaltending. Not sure if Primeau will be ready for the job next season. Once Byron, Drouin, Monahan, and Dadonov are gone (and likely for assets at the deadline) then they can be spenders in free agency.

A future top line of Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield sets them up well as long as Kirby Dach or someone else steps into a 2nd line scoring spot by then (Joshua Roy, Jesse Ylonen?) or add another free agent forward around then. Dvorak-Hoffman-Armia could be a good 3rd line with Evans-Pitlick-xxx on the 4th line.

Then they would be in a spot to compete in 2024-25 timeframe.

Yeah respect for the execution but it’s similar to Eklund at 7th - I mean you toss out your pick and you take that BPA and can’t look back.

Doesn’t work out not a massive issue it was a free pick but also if it works out it’s not a galaxy brain draft selection it fell to your lap.

Agreed. Also do u think San Jose re-signs Meier or do they try to get a good prospect and a 1st in a deep draft for him at the deadline . I think Calgary would be a good fit. Something like Zadorov/Kylington/Dube + Pelletier + 2023 1st
