Note that his "teammates" stat is at a miserable 34%. And given that at least 75% of his ice time was with Chara, I'm surprised it's not lower.

Dobson was great at defending the rush in juniors, he's too good of a skater (plus his IQ) to continue to be bad at defending the rush. His in zone defense is solid though. I expect his defensive metrics to be much better next season playing with pelech or Romanov.

So it's either Aho or Salo for that 6th spot with Mayfield. Praying its Salo.

Isles are going to have one of the youngest D cores and one of the oldest F cores in the league next season.

That Dobson contract is around where i would pencil in Gavrikov next offseason. Great job by Lou to get him that low.

I like the Dobson deal kind of reminds me of Rielly's deal

Take a bridge than go break the bank

Romanov's is fine as adding the third year made it worth it

And Bellows is fine

With the guys still available, and him being terrible for the majority of the season, it’s not all that surprising really. If I was gonna give someone a PTO based on having a brief hot streak, I’d rather have ERod.

Seems that thanks to the flat cap teams think otherwise

Luckily for us a new CBO is due in 2023 so hopefully were done with this slight 1mill increase.

Give us a 5mill increase so teams can spend

I feel Evan Rodrigues is waiting for a team to clear cap. Dont know who yet but I feel hes being stubborn on where he wants to go. As lets be real the wild are sitting right there with enough cap to give him a 1 year x 3mill deal or something. But maybe hes waiting for a team closer to home to make room who knows.

I don’t think he was ever getting 3mil. From the start I said he was worth 1-2 years at 2mil max. I’d be surprised if he’s even able to get a 2x2 at this point.

Nobody is “clearing cap” for a 4C lol

Rodrigues a 4C? Really, IMO on a weak team he could be a 2C, and one with a strong C lineup a 3C. Can also play the wing and is a coveted right shot. What’s not to like. I think 3 aav is tops but more than fair for his production

He had 30 inexplicably good games and has produced like a 4th liner the rest of his career (he had like 12 points in his last 50+ games as well, so recency bias isn’t even on his side)

I don't want to copy and paste all of this but that notion he is just some flash in the pan is just not accurate. This was a good read from Stephan Roget who did a really good deep dive into his numbers and the notion that he only did this while playing with Crosby which just isn't true.

And taking a look at guys who just signed for 3 mill AAV: Domi, Athanasiou, I'd take Rodrigues over them.

I would say he's a solid 3C
19 goals and 43 points last year. Could get multi year deal around 2M or 1 year close to 3
Teams that could use him: Vegas, Colorado, Minnesota, Columbus

He makes a lot of sense to CGY, they lack right shot forwards.

I think his total body of work points to being an average 3C (43 points is not great but not bad 3rd line production on a contender imo). But he had 30 of those in a 30 game stretch. With 50 games to build on that, he still barely reached half a point per game. He’s only had a half point per game season one other time in his career. There’s no shot this guy should be sniffing a team’s top 6 when healthy, and I would honestly consider him a lower end 3rd line option at best, but I’d be comfortable with him on the 4th line as an above average 4C. If he’s your 3C, that’s not good centre depth. I don’t care that that article describes him as a borderline 2C, because that’s just strictly untrue lol. He looked like he could hang for exactly 30 games—less than 10% of his career, and proceeded to follow that up by being terrible for 50 games. He’s also 29, so it’s not like there’s any untapped potential there, and it’s likely he starts getting worse. There’s really no appeal to signing him to longer than 2 years at all. This isn’t 2016, where Jay Beagle got a massive contract for winning a cup as the 4C. Money is tight, so unless he comes in cheap, most teams would rather use a young guy on an ELC in that role, because he hasn’t proven capable of playing high in the lineup consistently.

To each their own, IMO if a team has Rodrigues as their 3C you are in very good shape. Comparing him to Jay Beagle is certainly a take.

How close is he to the NHL?
Until then what is your prediction?

I would say 2 AHL seasons and we'll truly know what he is. He's just a talented player who also works hard and creates chances by doing so - he's smaller and so that could pose problems (5'11, 165lbs kid needs to get bigger) so that plus some pro experience will tell us what he is. This will be a year to watch him in the AHL and see how far hes come.
