Wow, the Robertson fatigue is real. This guy is 1 month older than Mercer... had 2 broken legs. And Nylander? Going for Severson does not address team need at all either. Terrible trade for Toronto. Mercer is a stud but I think waiting at least a little for Robertson to show what he's got is a good idea. Not to mention, NJD are not getting rid of Mercer for 2 years of Nylander + Robertson's stock is a little low right now.

Knies is better than Tatar already but even if he wasn’t it’s reasonable to assume Knies will reach Tatar’s current level. It is not super reasonable to assume Mercer will become a 30 goal/80 point player based on what he has shown so far.

Mercer isn't someone I see the Devils moving for a guy with 2 years left on his deal that doesn't address their biggest need (goalie). Nylander, makes them better, sure, but for a team that already has a strong top 6 forward group, it's a bit of a hat on a hat.

As far as Severson, he's a pending UFA and it seems like the Devils have enough in the system to replace him and are ready to move on. If they're out of it at the deadline, I think a package headlined by Robertson and a pick would be enough to pry him out (pending Robertson showing that he can actually stay healthy). If you need to send Holl back to make the cap work, I don't think they say no, but don't count on them assigning any value to him as a trade asset.

With the lenses im looking through, yes. Toronto is blind to the issues they have. Lets trade a RHD on an expiring for a RHD on an expiring. pay 2 mil more and all youre getting is a maybe a 10-15 point offensive upgrade to your top 4. cant resign him next year so why risk losing a guy like holl who you can likely afford to resign. they have no top 2 on the right side which is fine but at the expense of trading a better defensive player it makes no sense. weak right side, no defensive depth. more focus on offense and less on defense, no ****in mystery they can't win. not to mention holl is tougher.
