Additional Details:
I would say it's pretty clear that we are not trading Pinto for Chychrun.

Because Arizona would want additional pieces as well.

But what if Arizona actually offered to trade Chychrun for Pinto and nothing else?

Should Ottawa pull the trigger on a Chychrun-Pinto swap?

I wouldn't. Not to play him on the right side. In my opinion ottawa should be looking for someone who can play the right side.

If Ethan Bear is in fact available that move makes more sense. Paying the big price for chychrun to play him on his weak side where he isn't worth the haul makes no sense. A team like LA would make more sense.

Chabot-Zub
Sanderson-bear
Holden-Hamonic
Zaitsev

Move zaitsev in the offseason when it will cost less. He's a perfectly fine 5/6 guy to fill in for injuries.

The hype. He’s gonna play both the PP and PK , he’s gonna be deployed against the best opposing top lines. This kid is too good to trade

I'm not gonna argue Pinto is a more valuable asset, but I agree with Ottawa's decision not to move him for Chychrun

Next year he absolutely will be. Remember how badly Tampa didn’t want to trade Cirelli his first few years? And then they won 2 cups

Hate to break it to ya, but Chychrun, who is slightly overrated, is still very good, on a good contract, and will cost much more than just Pinto (Probably a protected first, another prospect, a pick somewhere between 2nd-4th round).

You can't appreciate Pinto unless you watch him. The stats don't do him justice.
He was the best player on the ice last preseason game 1g, 1a.
He's already one of the better defensive players on the team at such a young age - like a Bergeron lite.
Chychrun is overrated and doesn't fill our D need very well.

I agree with the other guys. Pinto is going to be a very good player, and Ottawa will absolutely benefit big time if they keep him. However, looking at it from Arizona’s perspective, I can’t see why they would do it either. If I’m Arizona, with how good Pinto is going to be, they have Cooley, Geekie, and Hayton coming up to fill those centre positions, and if they all pan out, that could be a very good center depth. If I’m Arizona, I want a stud LHD back as the main piece for Chychrun.. now I’m not saying it’s fair, but if I’m Arizona, I would say it’s either Sanderson coming over, or it’s a very good prospect/roster player as the main piece. Now instantly Ottawa should decline and tell them to keep him then, but that’s what I would want. Not necessarily Sanderson, but a good LHD as the main piece.

I imagine Geekie likely gets developed as a W/C if Chychrun gets moved for a package involving Pinto, and with the likelihood of the Yotes being one of the most likely destinations for Matthews, I get why they would want Pinto, but it wouldn’t make much sense for them to have Matthews, Cooley, Geekie, Pinto, and Hayton all try to play down the middle.

I’m still of the opinion the Yotes shouldn’t trade Chychrun, but Chychrun wants to go to a contender, and the Yotes are open to his requests. I imagine the big assets they want back would be a 1st, more than likely unprotected or with minimal protection in 2023, a higher end LHD prospect, and a higher end W prospect. Either which way, Ottawa won’t want to move Pinto based on his potential, and Arizona won’t move Chychrun for Pinto straight up.

Pretty much any futures trade for an established good player is going to require a lot. The ask on Chychrun is just ridiculous, he's being super overrated but he's still very young, so if he does reach a different level down the road ARZ doesn't want to undersell in hindsight.

That being said I think the point of the excercise is to ignore the actual trade values, and examine the tradeoff in terms of which player is going to provide the Sens with the most value, not just now but in the coming years as well. Personally, I agree with @GenXHockey in them getting a serviceable, young RHD like Bear who won't cost too much instead of playing Chychrun on his offside. The Sens are in danger of trying to get better too fast which may not yield the desired results and also impact their ability to retain potential key pieces in DeBrincat and Zub.

If they insist on Chychrun, I think they should be moving Brannstrom+ who perhaps might develop into a LHD that can play the right side just as well as Chychrun. Giving up Pinto if he can really play PK and PP well in the NHL would be a mistake. There's also the potential to have him on a super cheap two-year deal if he's extended before he does anything in the NHL.

I'm guessing the ask for Chychrun and to move Zaitsev was Pinto+Brannstrom+ 2023 1st + a 2nd or 3rd.

Ottawa isn’t going to trade him. His potential is sky high as a 2 way player and will without a doubt be the best defensive player on the Sens while being able to score a lot of pts . He will be very valuable in the playoffs. Chychrun isn’t needed at the expense of Pinto

If Chychrun was a RHD, maybe. I still think Pinto will offer more value to the Sens than Chychrun could, and that they'd be better off looking for a cheaper option.

But Chychrun's a LHD, so it's a moot point. It's not worth giving up the potential Pinto has for someone to have to play out of position. Depth helps win cups, and Pinto's trending at the very least to be an exceptional 3C. I personally think he'll be one of Ottawa's top 6 C's as early as 2023.

Re-assuring that Dorion and co know this as well

Pinto is an unicorn type player, you just don't move him at all.

Sanderson, Greig and Pinto are guys that you just don't trade. I'd actually rather trade DeBrincat next season if that could get us a young stud RHD

Using stats to "appreciate" a player is stupid anyway but even more so for a player like Pinto

Ask Montreal if they regret letting Phillip Danault go

If Pinto wasn't injured all season last year these discussions wouldn't even happen.

Stutzle and Norris are both signed for 8 years though (well, 9 for Stutzle)

Stutzle - Norris - Pinto is going to be a deadly trio of Centers

Just let it happen.

On the list of teams to acquire Matthews Arizona is number 182. This is after every other nhl, khl, liga, shl, sel and a few teams from other leagues who can actually afford him pass.
