Oh oh - now what

Created by: WarrenB
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 19, 2022
Published: Oct. 19, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Add some punch to forwards and D, while Muzzin is sent to LTIR until he retires - which unfortunately might actually happen to him. Remove Bunting, as the idea of signing him to a long-term contract isn't a good idea.
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Severson, Damon
  2. 2023 5th round pick (NJD)
NJD
  1. Der-Arguchintsev, Semyon
  2. Holl, Justin
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
NJ isn't going far this year and they won't be able to re-sign Severson next year. This gives them a slightly younger D, a prospect in their system and a better pick in the upcoming draft. Leafs replace Muzzin for the time being, remove Holl (huge W) and shed another contract.
2.
NSH
  1. Bunting, Michael
  2. Mete, Victor
  3. 2023 6th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
I hate Buntings game and rather add some sweetener to bring in Jeannot who brings a lot more muscle to the ice.
3.
TOR
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (CHI)

You have to know NJ is not accepting... that.

Really? He's on their 3rd pairing (but I know he's good and a leader), is 100% not returning next year and you get a bit more...maybe take out the NJ pick, and make the Leafs one a bit higher up - but I think there's at least some options here.

Nashville has no reason to trade Jeannot for Bunting who they could try signing in free agency but probably can't afford and Mete who will either be easy to sign in free agency (if he's even worth it). Still doesn't make sense to trade Jeannot. You may hate Bunting's game but I think he's linemates like it so that's more important.

NJ doesn't accept.

Also, if they trade Holl, it's going to be for someone that they can keep around for at least 1 more season. Otherwise, he's probably going to be an own rental even if he's the 7th or 8th defenseman come TDL.

Muzzin isn't on LITR so hold off on any major blueline changes.

New Jersey fans look like they want an arm and a leg for Severson so you're going to get a lot of comments rejecting that trade. He's a rental, but it'll likely cost the 2023 1st round pick + SDA or the 2024 1st round pick + Hirvonen or Villeneuve or Minten. Don't hate the idea of upgrade on Holl. Larsson, Murphy or Stecher are alternative options as well.

Not sure why you hate Bunting, he's an instigator and plays (hopefully not played) well with the Matthews-Marner line. Not a great start this season though. Don't think Jeannot is for sale.

I feel like there's a pretty big difference between "3rd pairing" and "Plays over 20 minutes a night".

I think you are the only one who does not like bunting as a Leafs fan. But I do agree jeannot is more muscle than hunting.

That devils trade is really bad. Devils can get a way better package at the deadline than a borderline 6th/7th d who is older and a meh prospect. They have no incentive to move one of their locker room leaders who’s averaged 20 mins a night to start the year.

I would not say 100% at all. Severson wants to return to NJD and is asking for max term (8 years) instead of top $$.
He has been getting 20+ minutes a night (and has led our team in TOI for last 5 or years...often while being listed as 'third pair" on lineup sheet).

The trade is not close. Holl is UFA and would not be extended. SDA is prospect that wouldn't even be top-10 here. And the jump to 3rd round from 5th round has little value.
At deadline, it would likely be something like 1st and 3rd for Severson. Bit more of retained.

(also would add that is Severson is negotiating in-season)

New jersey laugh not even in the ballpark for Damon Severson. Holl is a bottom pairing RD and Der-Arguchintsev is so overrated it isn't funny and a lousy 3rd Yeah right.

Might I interest you in a David Savard? Got one whole assist on the year and averaging less than a -1 per game

Most our guys play both sides. Lindy moves around lineup constantly.

Graves has played RD here before...played some RD in Colorado too.

Not when a bunch of other teams easily top it.
