What on God's Green Earth makes Canuck fans beleive they can get Newhook for Horvat from the Avs? The 1st I get, but Newhook is 100% untouchable at this point.

      It's wishful thinking.

they never look at these proposals for the other teams side. So they move newhook...now avs have a hole on their 3rd line bc they have horvat on the 2nd. So create one problem to solve another. Next year the will have a hole at 2C and on the 3rd line bc they cant extend Horvat and now they dont have newhook. So now the are are worse off next year with multiple problems in their middle 6

Avs and horvat is just a bad trade fit, and thats been explained so many times but its an echo chamber on this site of people posting the same trades every day despite sound logic being applied why they dont work

See that in a lot of posts lol.

It is ok to disagree with a proposal (often happens), but when it is so obvious that such a deal would never materialize based on the other organizations set up, try something else! Please!

exactly, sometimes trades just dont make sense, despite someone assuming the player would be a fit on that team, the way to make that happen just isnt remotely possible.

AVs aren't giving up Newhook for a rental in Bo Horvat.

And how many times need it be said, that they don't have the cap space to extend Horvat. Who's probably coming in between 8 x $8,500,000 to 8 x $9,000,000 give or take.

thats the point, there isnt one, they are not good trade partners, you cant make a trade work for both sides when it just doesnt in principle.

you are demonstrating exactly that, its an awful trade that doesnt work for the avs now or long term

Isn't the point of not agreeing, it's the point of recognizing the Avs would never do it. Not even a possible fit.

Now, if I through out there a deal say Horvat to the Kings for Roy/Walker and a 1st, I could at least defend why the Canucks may do it, and defend why the Kings may do it, but most would disagree that the return makes sense for either side.

Point is..... I could defend it at least as a possibility.

Our 1st this year unprotected, AND KJ, AND Ceulemans? Vancouver literally does not possess the caliber of asset necessary for us to do that.

And Petterson probably wouldn't be a target here in any case - yes, he's awesome and what we would need, but his agent would ensure we don't get to keep him - like said agent already did with Jones and Dubois and tried to do with Werenski before Werenski fired him.

You’re gonna be waiting a while here. That’s the point lmao.

Vancouver can probably get a big futures haul for Horvat from a team that can re-sign him to an 8 year deal. The Avs don’t have enough futures or enough cap space to do that type of deal.

It’s a bad fit, but that won’t stop ACGMs from posting it every day until March.

I find it hilarious that Avs fans think Newhook is so untouchable when his stats don’t exactly say he’s anything more than a 3rd liner rn. We will see in a couple years but I vaguely remember Avs fans saying the same thing about Jost and look how that turned out lol

Your memory of Jost seems to be a little different from mine. He was never untouchable, maybe except right after he was a top 10 pick. Teams generally don’t move on from a top 10 pick unless they have a good reason. Not sure what else you could be referring to. Not to mention that Newhook’s rookie year goals and points totals would be career highs for Jost.

Newhook is a 21 year old who just hit 100 NHL games. His top linemates this season have been Evan Rodrigues and Martin Kaut (who just passed through waivers for the second time this year). Before the start of the season, I also said I didn’t think Newhook was ready for 2C duties. But he’s young enough that we can hope he grows into that role. I think it’s fair to wait to see how he looks with quality NHL wingers before pulling the plug on a 21 year old.

The other part about Newhook is that the Avs are about to enter a cap crunch when MacKinnon’s extension kicks in. We need cheap players that can hopefully play above their contract. Trading Newhook for a player that’s going to make $8M next year is just something that doesn’t make sense for Colorado.

Why would the Devils trade Walsh + a 2nd rd pick for one of the league's worst performing defenders over the last 3-4 years when they could just play Walsh at 3RD next season themselves?

Having a top end center is one of the most overrated thing on this website, I don’t see all these trade posts targeting Minnesota where their 1c is currently Sam Steel or Ryan Hartman.
