If someone were to give up that much for Karlsson, which I don’t see happening, it’s not going to be Seattle who has a very shallow prospect pool. You could probably get Wilde for one of those players, he doesn’t have much value.

Seattle isn't going to trade away any 1st round picks during their first 4-5 years of existence. They need to build a prospect pipeline from scratch.

Gregor has little value and Merkley requested a trade. our options are slim for moving both those guys.

they need to build a fan base too and being a perennial contender in the first 3 years helps that a ton.

Just because three firsts is the ask doesn't mean three firsts is what they're getting

that's fine. Labanc is the better offensive tool in that deal so we'd be happy to keep him.

They sold out their season ticket drive in 12 minutes. They're not hurting for fans. They're definitely not going to sacrifice the longevity of their team success to get a shiny new toy.

There are teams out there that could be compelled to give up a haul like this. Seattle isn't one of them.

GM's are stupid, but I don't think they're 3 1sts for 18% ret Karlsson stupid.
SJ has a once in a lifetime chance to dump that contract and they're blowing it. Too bad

San Jose is kidding themselves if they actually think that's what they're gonna get. I mean, I get that you always open high but no one is giving that up for a guy who was basically a buy out candidate 2 months ago.

No, that's, that's not what it means. It means that's where he's starting negotiations. It is going to be less than that.

Seattle was the perfect hockey market and it’s flourishing plus the team is pretty solid, and an expansion team should never trade a 1st or 2nd in their 1st 4 years (unless it’s to trade back for more picks) you have to solidify a prospect pool and gain organizational depth. and moving 3 of your 1st 5 1st rounders is a recipe for disaster.

I think they will trade a 1st but its gonna be for a Dman or future franchise goalie. As their forward core is A level, everything else is kind of questionable

That said it wont be Karlsson

One of Provarov, Ekholm, or Chycrun will be the one as they need a LD more so then a RD.

I interpreted 3 1sts as equal to, so you could have former 1st rnd pick prospects included

Not at 18% retained. He'll have to retain more to get that return. Great player, but he's still the biggest salary dump in in the league.
