Graviteh Trades for Timo

Created by: areax91
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2023
Published: Feb. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Timo Meier is the top trade target this season, and he's been getting a lot of attention.

Graviteh on Sportsnet's YT channel shared three packages. The Sharks are looking for quality over quantity, and of the three, I think Buffalo is the most realistic (though I do think they'd rather have Levi as their choice of top prospect). I do think there are better packages out there for both sides, thoughts?

That is too rich for me as a sabres fan. It is also far far more than you are asking from the leafs

My first thought is that Grav is absolutely insufferable to listen to, so good on you for making it through one of his videos long enough to find out what he's talking about

I know re: the Leafs. I don't think it makes sense for Toronto given their cap issues, as it would effectively make Timo a rental. Getting Knies would be good but I don't think Dubas will want to part with hiim just yet.

As great as it would be get the haul proposed, the Devils would probably be giving up too much for this trade to work. I'm also not sure how willing they'd be to pay for Timo's extension given Bratt will also be out of contract as a RFA, but there's probably an adjusted package to make this work. Perhaps...
        - NJ gets: Timo
        - SJ gets: Holtz, Sharangovich, Blackwood, lottery-protected 1st, 2024 3rd (for Blackwood cap dump)

For the Sabres, I think they're the best fit for Timo but I could work with a different package. Was thinking of:
        - Buffalo gets: Timo, Megna
        - SJ gets: Neuchev, Levi, lottery protected 1st, 5th (for Megna)

TML package is weak especially since it requires to retain so much... Even as a pure rental, but if Dubas did this trade I could see him resigning Meier then moving Nylander

Levi is a keeper for sabres, portillo seems to want to go to ufa if you want a goalie prospect and sanjose should be an enticing prospect for a goalie prospect. But really sabres have the skinner contract to contend with so i cant see then adding another high price winger until they shake out the rest of the roster.
I could offer nuechev, ostlund, portillo and a 2023 1st. But thats not even going to stay on the table long.

The Sabres are below the cap minimum and had to take on Bishop to be compliant. The Skinner contract isn't that bad

        I don’t think these are terrible proposals…

As a Sabres fan I would counter with the following…

        1) I’d really rather not deal Kulich.
Ostlund or Rosen would definitely be available. Both 1st rounders. Rosen is closer but is strictly a wing. Ostlund is much more likely to be a long term center but will take time to develop properly.

        2) If you want a goalie, take out Neuchev, add Portillo.

        3) I’d rather keep the Philly 2nd rounder. Could we sub in one of Mittelstadt or Olofsson? Or a different prospect, Buffalo has loads of forward prospects available.

I think you forgot to add that he is completely delusional in at least 97% of his trade proposals. I go as far as wonder how he even gets paid for his “content”. There are bad crazy like Grav, and there are good crazy like Dangle. Graviteh is one of the worst sources you could choose.

I wouldn't do kulich and the 23 first. I would do ostlund/Rosen and the 23 first. If they insist on savoie or kulich, then i would only go 24 first. I would gladly add mittelstadt, I would not add olofsson. If we need to add something else, I would do Bloom, a second, or one of the Russian wingers. Any more than that and somebody else can have him. Maybe jersey wants to get nutty and beat that, but I doubt it.

This is way too much for Meier.
If Holtz is dealt with a 1st rd pick alone the Devils are overpaying, nevermind adding Sharangovich to the deal.

Also, Blackwood isn't capdump, he's quietly been pretty good in a limited role this year.

I find Dangle difficult to listen to. I used to like his podcast, but adjusting my volume every 10 seconds because he jumps from mumbling to screaming was getting to be a nuisance. But I don't find him to be that much of a homer.

I find Dangle difficult to listen to. I used to like his podcast, but adjusting my volume every 10 seconds because he jumps from mumbling to screaming was getting to be a nuisance. But I don't find him to be that much of a homer.

Frankly, I don’t listen to the sdpn podcast that much, other than when they bring up certain topics of interest. I am more in for Dangle with Hat picks and dang it’s, but he is definitely a good crazy.

Like him or hate him, Dangle at least has a natural on camera charisma. So much of hockey YouTube is a bunch of young guys trying to emulate him without any of that natural comfort in front of a camera, and it makes them so stilted and awkward, or outright irritating.

        - SJ gets: Neuchev, Levi, lottery protected 1st, 5th (for Megna)

devils can definitely keep meier and bratt. devs have about 36 mill in cap space. meier+bratt at 17 total, yegor zett tatar at 9-10 total, 4th line at 4-5 total, graves at 4, that's 35. and you don't necessarily need to keep graves to play 3rd pairing, or pay a 3rd line winger that much.
        palat Hischier bratt
        meier hughes yegor
        tatar mercer zetterlund
        prospect mcleod bastian
        hamilton siegs
        hughes marino
        graves nemec
        vitek
        schmid
