This Devils core haven't made the playoffs ONCE and they're spending futures like Bolts chasing a dynasty and not like a team that HAS WON ONE PLAYOFF GAME SINCE 2012 COME ON MAN.
THERE IS NO NEED TO TAKE SUCH A MASSIVE RISK RIGHT NOW
Is Fitzy so frickin scared to lose to the Rags in the 1st rd just get baited into a terrible value deal like that.
In 3-4 years when Meier hits 30, tailing off and not providing value on his contract any longer the Devils are gonna massively regret this move.

It's so shortsighted


I know you love Zettertank but this is a Fitz masterclass

Nothing short sighted about this trade

And everyone is replaceable

Hatakka ranked 15th on Wheeler's breakdown of the Sharks prospect pool.
7th D man if the Devils are lucky is his verdict.

Ibragimov didn't get a mention.

I hated the condition at first, but:

The condition cuts nicely

If the devils make the ecf the pick is basically a second rounder (4th from last at best)

So either the sharks get a 1st and 2nd or the Sharks basically get a 1st and 2nd.

Kinda just a hedge condition.

The biggest risk is if the devils make the ecf this year, then **** the bed next year but do not go top 10.

Hatakka has had promise, could turn into another Dylan Demelo, or end up back in Finland, probably a 15% chance he actually pans out. Ibragimov ain't doing anything.

Hatakka is the only one of substance (Emond was never going to be qualified and same for Timur).
But Hatakka has arguably just a good of chance to make the NHL as Nikita O. who yall traded just traded for Timo Meier whereas we traded him to you as a gift because Grier cant understand he needed to be below 50 contracts AFTER a Meier trade.

I didn’t think, under latest CBA change, that conditions could be placed on players performance if they are not under contract. So I am not sure how this condition works for 2024 playoffs if Meier is not extended at time of trade.

Meier playing is for the 2023 playoffs only

I think it doesn't matter as long as the condition can be fulfilled during the time Meier has with the team. They can net a 2024 1st by doing really well in 2023 playoffs, and Meier is under contract for this duration of time.

“Condition on 2024 1st Round Pick: #njdevils must reach East Conf Final in 2023 or 2024, and Meier plays in 50% of games in 2023, then it will become Top 10 lottery protected 2024 1st round pick. If those things do not happen, it becomes a 2024 2nd Round Pick.“

Kind of strange.

So there is a chance the condition could be met with Meier as member of another team.
