Do you not see the 2024 1st

Anderson is a negative value contract, 500k retention or not. He's not as negative as Jack Campbell, which is why the 1st is added.

Yes but you'd have to pay double that plus a prospect just to move Campbell with that term.
So again Monty and Anderson are being given up for Free.

4 years after this x 5m a year after this season.
If LAK cant move Peterson forced to eat 3.875/5m cap this and the next 2 seasons because the cost to move that kinda term and cap is too high.

Assuming you have some nonsense theory about MTL capdumping Anderson to quote our GM "Anderson will only be moved in a deal thats impossible to refuse" latering citing Toffoli and Chiarot deals.
I've tried looking at it from every POV but just cant figure out how you thought you'd get paid to move a goalie i wouldnt Swap Allen with 1 for 1

A lot of whiny people on the internet yelling Anderson has negative value.... simply not true, as time goes on, if he still scores 20-25 goals, and clearly remains healthy, the contract becomes more and more manageable until it's actually a good contract for a top-6 forward.

Anderson with Drai or McD has more value than Campbell in Montreal.... throwing a late 1st to take on Campbell's contract, while taking a lone bright spot in Monty from a team with no goaltending depth is a tough ask.

I don't think it takes much more, Anderson with retention for Campbell and the 1st, Monty would likely get a 2nd or another projected bottom 6 prospect.

Don't buy into the Anderson is negative value nonsense. At worse he's an overpaid 3rd liner and his cap hit isn't hurting Montreal whatsoever.
He's actually a middle-6 20 goal scorer with a relatively fair contract, especially when you account for his intangibles and leadership in the room.
That's also a terrible use of a retention slot, regardless of the player.

Edmonton can't afford negative value contracts period, so if that's how you see Anderson, you can't trade for him anyway.
Getting rid of Campbell is going to be a completely 1-sided trade at this point. You'd be lucky to get any serviceable player for just Campbell and a 1st let alone two.

Yeah. I really don't like taking on ANOTHER veteran RHD, but for a 2nd, you got a deal.

The Canadiens don't view Anderson as a negative contract, wouldn't trade him if it's viewed as one, insiders have said it's not viewed as one. To say nothing of how good Montembault has been this season. A 2024 1st from a likely playoff team does not make Montreal consider this at all.

If you want to swap Campbell's contract for a different bad contract, find one that a team actually wants to move.

Edmonton rejects all trades and also the Orlov signing. You've made the team worse and spent assets doing it.

Josh Anderson isn't a top 6 forward on a good team
