Knies ends his college career with 36 Goals 39 Assists in 72 Games.

I personally don’t believe Knies will make an immediate impact, he needs some time to get fully adjusted. I would love to see him get in the final 3 games playing top 6 mins and just watch a hopeful long playoff run (only get in if injuries occur).

Then play with the Marlies till the NHL All-Star game so he gets adjusted to the pro game and how the Leafs like to play.

If the ACGMs and fans have taught us anything. He will be an elite lw. A top 6 forward. A bottom 6. A bubble player. Or a career Ahler. It’s really that simple folks.

What is the matter with those stats? 45 on defense and is 100 overall?

My expectations for this year are minimal. My hope for long term is high. My expectations somewhat lower. I would be content if he's a physically intimidating middle six winger. A Josh Anderson. Or even better a pre-Vancouver JT Miller. I'd be ecstatic if he turns into a true top 6 power forward, ala Lucic or the like, but they are so damn rare, I truly don't expect it.

All that being said it appears people think he's going to walk into the top 6 as a 25 g/60 pt scorer, and I think they need their expectations strongly tempered. Look at successful physical forwards like Brayden Schenn and Chris Kreider. They have been huge successes and look at their scoring in their draft plus 3 and draft plus 4

I'm pleased and maybe even a bit surprised that Knies that didn't go the college UFA route. Even better for the Leafs is he doesn't have any performance bonuses....which I am very surprised.

What I find crazy which I just learned tonight

For all the crap he has taken over his point production, he had a similar number of primary assists to Cooley (17 vs. 21), but had no luck getting secondary assist luck, only getting 4 to Cooley’s 22.

Now by no means do I believe he has Cooley’s play making abilities but the knocks on him have been his skating (which he has proven to be wrong with his excellent transition skills) and play making (which apparently with a little more puck luck could improve).

I’m excited to see what he can do, especially if he gets to ride shotgun with Matthews and Marner for his career.

But baby steps first

Man, it's a good thing Knies and his incredibly standard signing bonus didn't hold up this signing.

I'm liking Friedman less and less every time he opens his mouth.

Think it was performance bonuses that posed a potential issue, which it looks like Knies didn't get any

He doesn't need any bonus, he'll be RFA in 2 years. No entry level slide.

Just like Abruzzesse.
Which is why Abruzzesse spent all year in the Ahl, to both develop him and to ensure he doesn't have any advantage coming into his 1st rfa contract signing.
