Team: 2023-24 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 15, 2023
Published: Apr. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Colton is expected to get a decent pay raise and could price himself out of Tampa. Even with Killorn likely walking in FA (barring some magical chance he takes a league minimum deal) Cooper is likely not going to put him in the top 6 and staple him to 3rd/4th line duties with Maroon and Jeannot. Adding Rasmussen and Zadina boosts the middle 6 while getting 2 players for the same cap hit of what Colton would likely get on the open market as well as getting younger.

Rasmussen is too important to the Wings with his physicality and size. Cheap contract and younger than Colton.

Rasmussen is younger, cheaper, controlled longer with more upside, with a breakout year before his injury. Why would the Red Wings entertain this offer? What upside do they get?

What upside did Verheaghe,or Marchessault have before leaving TB? Colton is better substantially than either was at the same age when they left

I think only if we are not on track to hit the floor closer to the start of the season. No reason to strengthen Tampas team next season by allowing them to accrue cap.

Rasmussen would likely be one of the few players as the main piece that I could see JBB moving Colton for. All these offers I've been seeing of Zadina+a pick for Colton are offers that Tampa declines quickly. Zadina does very little to move the needle for Tampa. I think for Rasmussen+Zadina that Tampa might need to add a little, but unless Tampa was getting an impact player like Rasmussen or maybe Kubalik(although older and about to be ufa), Tampa would pass. Colton should be in the top 6 next year with Killorn gone, and he's new deal should be around 3.5 max.

this is my only issue with Colton. He could very well ask for 3.5m but i wouldnt want to pay him that only because Cooper will never play him top 6 unless an injury happens and even then he was stapled to the 4th line with Maroon

With Killorn gone, 2LW should very much be his spot. 2nd line of him, either Paul/Cirelli, and Stamkos seems pretty good. 3rd line can be Jeannot, Cirelli/Paul, and either Ryfors/ABB if promoting from within, or Eyssimont/another ~1 million ufa acquisition. I suppose if ABB gets a spot, he'd be better suited in the top 6, but either way, something in the 3-3.5 range is fair for Colton. I actually think that value is a long term win for Tampa, as Colton, with more ice time, could definitely be a 50-60 point guy imo.

100% can be a 50 point guy and 20 goals would be a cake walk every year if he got consistent top 6 time. But Coop gonna Coop and trick JBB into giving Killorn an 8 year deal at 5m per
