Rebuild is just not realistic. A retool is much more palatable for the team and the fan base. A rebuild could take 5+ years so why keep most of the players (Connor ehlers nino) retool keeps the team competitive sell the ufas that won't resign and run it back in the 2024-2025 season

i would much rather see a total rebuild than a re-tool. this team has proven they don't have what it takes to win. Connor and ehlers could be moved as well, But the focus should be on upcoming ufas

In what world is Scheifele worth anything close to the eighth pick and a first round prospect?

And how likely is the fan base or management to want to go through that process? I'm not trying to say i disagree, just what is likely to happen is ehat we've seen in the past and just make tweaks maybe a couple trades and move on.

CM was a first round pick but not a top prospect anymore. If the caps want to keep Ovi they need to avoid a rebuild

Hughes went out and traded for Dach at the 2022 draft giving up 13th overall and a 3rd for him, I seriously doubt that he would go and move him 1 year later.

There's a lots more difference between Dach and PLD than a marginal bottom sixer. Winnipeg says no.

Other than the Washington deal, Winnipeg does none of these.

Nor is PLD lmao, they both 1B actually, Suzuki is prob a top 30, thats why habs want a 1A c, if the habs tanked properly (RHP and montembeault stealing games), they wouldnt be sitting at 5th but fighting for a top 3.
Smith could become that 1A. PLD sure as hell wouldnt become a 1A with his career high of 63 points, he prob a 70-75 points guy, and so is suzuki but more responsible defensively.

Devils decline. Way too much for a rental when they have Schmid.

Regardless of what you think of CM, the Caps aren't gonna move the 8th OA for a guy with one year left on his contract.

I'd say a retool is more realistic because management doesn't want to do a rebuild, and ownership wants the playoff money.

Exactly! Sure a rebuild might be what the team needs most but no team that makes the playoffs trades away all their key guys and tear it down.

Caps haaaard pass. Can get a much better player with that package. Scheif is over rated.

Trades 1-3 and 6-7 just aren't happening. I can't see Carolina wanting Stanley or New Jersey giving all that up unless there's a reasonable extension in place either.

Montreal isn't trading Dach in a Dubois trade and the Capitals one is straight up ridiculous.

Its cool if you want a total rebuild, but you'll be pretty disappointed if you're expecting a rebuild to look like this.

I'm not sure why you think I wrote that. Even if I had that would have no bearing on the fact that MTL won't trade Dach for Dubois.

I see a core shakeup happening only. Goodbye Scheifele, Wheeler, and likely PLD ( if the desire to play in Montreal is true, and his mind doesn't change) and that's it for substantial moves.

You left out "rental" in front of "Scheifele."

Oh yeah let's write off a 22 year old who has performed exceptionally well at the AHL level and had positive analytics in his time at the NHL level under a coach who doesn't know how to utilize a player who's age starts with a 2. Ovechkin isn't going anywhere lmaooooo

Scheifele could have 7 years on his contract left and he still wouldn't be worth that trade.

Just don't see any reason Buffalo would be interested in Wheeler. They are pretty well stocked on the wing and have a couple of kids who will likely push for roster spots in camp. DeMelo would be much more interesting to them I would think, and would fill a bigger need.
