TOR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (MTL)
  2. 2023 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
*Canadiens trade the 37th overall pick and the 101st overall pick for the 28th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
2.
MTL
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc [RFA Rights]
WPG
  1. Farrell, Sean
  2. Norlinder, Mattias
  3. 2024 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
*Jets don't have too much leverage in trade talks for a player who only wants to play in Montreal ... plus the Jets are likely to re-build.
3.
NJD
  1. Edmundson, Joel
Additional Details:
*NJ unlikely to sign both UFAs Severson and Graves considering they need to invest in Meier and Bratt long-term. Edmundson's contract is cheap and low risk considering he's on the final year of his 3.5 mill deal.
4.
MTL
  1. 2024 4th round pick (DAL)
DET
  1. Allen, Jake
Additional Details:
*Red Wings are in the market for a high-end back-up goalie to compliment Husso. Allen's contract is manageable for a team who's unlikely to reach the cap ceiling.

You know what, I actually don't mind the Dubois deal. Seems risky for MTL to not at least top 5/10 protect it.

Weird a reasonable Montreal fan. Good work. Only thing I'd say is idk if NJ would give up Foote for Edmonson.

The hyper overvalue of Edmundson is EXTREME.

1) Devils do not need a LHD with Siegs, Bahl, and Luke Hughes
2) That price is crazy
3) Even needing a RHD, there are way more options than having to do anything that resembles this

I appreciate the in depth post.

To comment on the Leafs trade: moving up 9 spots into the first round is worth an early 3rd round pick, and possibly another later pick. Based on what the org has done in the past and other draft pick trades recently.

Why don't you draft a goalie with the last 1st round pick?

Couple things.

I think moving up from 37 to 28 is going to cost a substantial amount. Probably the MTL 3rd + a decent another pick

Montembault has more value than a 7th. He could easily get a second at least. Also I don’t think Nedj sign. He could be a backup in a lot of team so why accept a third goalie spot

I don’t think NJ takes that deal bc of what they have on D at this point. Even Edmundson isn’t great, ik someone will overpay for him. I think the PLD trade is fine, I think MTL would put the option where they can defer to 2025 instead

NJD are very high on Foote and Vilen. Our GM in recent interviews has said both could earn spots in lineup next year (Foote definitely will, Vilen is a longer shot). I don’t think we would move those pieces so close to our roster for a rental. If we were buyers on Edmundson, it would likely be more futures package.

I'd rather the Devils not trade two very promising prospects in Foote and Vilén for one of the worst defenders in the league thank you very much.

No way MTL trades a 2024 1st for PLD w/o protection.

Top RHD are worth quite a bit. Would you rather have Brett Pesce or Bryan Rust? Cause I'll tell you the Pens much rather have Pesce.

Giving up a lot of nothing is an extreme price? tears of joy

Agreed. Edmundson easily goes for a few picks simply because of pedigree and he makes little money with no term which means everything in the offseason.

Norlinder is an LHD and the last thing Winnipeg needs and wouldn't be something the Jets consider. Swap him out for Beck or Roy. If the 1st is in 24 it needs to be unprotected.
