AA and now Foligno get pay raises...

If I was a GM, I would be pissed at Chicago signing ridiculous hy high AAV contracts just to get to the cap floor.

I mean sure, but there were better guys you could of signed for 4M or less on a one year deal and get more than a late round pick for at the trade deadline

Another necessary overpay to get to the cap floor with some cushion. Hawks now sit at 13F 6D 2G while still roughly $1.2 million under the cap floor. Still need to resign Kurashev and maybe C. Jones and that fills the roster. Guessing the cap dump market wasn't as great as they hoped or they just really preferred Hall's higher cap hit and pedigree.

Cap dump market seems great. This is dumb

I think it's an overpayment, but it's one year, so it doesn't matter really.

This seems terrible. In a time where cap is at a massive premium they overpay significantly for a third liner on the downward part of his career? In the end it won't affect them much as they have the room, but it's still a bad move

Chicago gets a veteran presence and gets themselves closer to the cap floor. This would be a bad signing for 90% of the league but for Chicago's position it's fine.

Makes sense for CHI so they can hit the cap floor but I don't think his contract will be movable to any team during the season

Doubt that's the plan. I can see him becoming a sort of captain figure in the locker room and on the ice. He and Hall can both help Bedard settle in. Even then, 4 mil is still extremely steep for Foligno. Maybe that was the temptation for him to sign...

Are there two Nick Folignos in the league? We aren't talking about the guy who scored 39 points in the past two seasons combined, right?

They could have done that by taking on a bad contract and getting assets in return.

It’s an overpay, but it’s only for a year so it isn’t that big of a deal.

He might be the ideal character player to have on a very young team for only 1 year...but thats a big overpay, and might hinder the ability to move him at the deadline for prospects or picks, which would be the ideal plan.

Considering the # of teams with cap issues, taking on a short term contract for pennies on the dollar- or getting actual picks/prospects for taking on the worst contracts ( Tyler Myers anyone?), that seems like a better play. Hell look at what St.Louis did with Kevin Hayes.

I 100% agree with you. Hell, if he's worth $4 million this season, then Maybe the Canucks will be able to trade Myers away at 50% retention and actually get assets back in return.
