Absolutely no from NYR... if they are trading him, they want an NHL ready top 6 player to fit their window, not a 3rd round pick, 4th round pick, and a 4th line center...

No I don't think so. We just can't have him right now. We have Slaf/Newhook/Monahan/Hoffman/Caufield who can all potentially play LW.
Its poor asset management to give 3 future pieces to make a logjam worse.
We just have too many wingers.
Don't forget Heineman and Roy could crack this roster in Oct 23 or Oct24

Yea, it's actually bad for both teams IMO. And bad for Laffy

Drury would ask for a LOT more than that if they want Laf. That's low even if the Rangers were shopping him.

you think that Laffy would get you a TOP6 winger... He is a 3rd line young guy today... all you can have is Picks and Good prospect... then you sign Tarasenko for your top 6.

Drury says not even close, we will just sign him to a 2 year deal.

My guess - it's Laffy's last year to prove that he belongs in the top 6. A 1-2 year prove it deal... then he will probably be traded.

Too much potential and still young. it's stupid to drop a prospect at that age. Not all prospect can make an impact at 18, 19, 20 or 21... We are killing a lot of talent with that expectation.

We are about to do the same with Slaf... and we did it with KK.

As an anglophone who has lived in Quebec wanting French players in Montreal is not a bigotry thing(well maybe for some it is) but just proper reasoning. Just like any job, location and quality of life are important to whether you are happy in your occupation or not and trust me speaking french is very important for quality of life in Quebec(yes even Montreal). Happy players generally play better and are more inclined to stay.

Don't think Montreal wants Lafreniere that badly tbh.

That's a very... interesting way to characterize those propsects, but Lafreniere is not going to return a top-6 player to fit their window.

If NYR could sign Tarasenko for 2.5mil, they would've done it already. Unless you wanna take Goodrow, too... haha

Neither have played NHL games, so how would you describe them? NYR is in no position to sell futures for futures haha... you sell futures for the present, and there's no reason to say he wouldn't net a top 6 winger from the right team.

Laffy isn't terrible, just for some reason he can't figure out the right side, and NYR already have Kreider and Panarin. Laffy should excel on a team that can play him big minutes on LW

IDK, we're talking about a 19 year old D-man who is already playing a key role on an SHL team and led that team in playoff scoring and a guy who was 4th in NCAA scoring and has played in two WC. I get that New York is looking for help now, but they've shown a lot more than your average 3rd round pick" and "4th round pick".

I know Laf isn't terrible, but he's also not going to return a RW/C who is youngish, a true top-6 guy and cheap enough to fit New York's cap.

Montreal probably wouldn't be looking that hard at Laf right now anyways since they've got plenty of young, high upside guys they need to give ice-time to already.

Well, let me break it down for you:

1) The 2nd round is pick 56-64 IMO, so not really so bad
2) Engstrom is a delightful surprise and shows tons of promise, but it's at a position where we are stacked and organizationally the following players are ahead of him: Matheson, Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Hutson, Struble, Trudeau. That basically means 4 guys need to not make it or be traded for him to play regular minutes
3) Farrell is a nice future NHL player, but he's another skill guy without the physical attributes to round out the package. We can't play him in our top 6 if we want to win in the playoffs. He might help us get to the playoffs, but I doubt he helps us get through the playoffs
4) Evans is a good piece. I value him at like a 3rd

So it's a late 2nd, a bottom 4 LD prospect, a top 6 prospect in a small package, and a 4th line center. The Habs should do this all day.

They have too many LW. Laffy would still end up at #3 LW and Slaf #4LW and then other guys are pushed down (even if Hoffman weren't in the picture).
If we traded 1 of Dvo and Monahan, and sent Hoffman packing and put Caufield on RW and put Dach at Center, sure.
Those are too many it's for me.
The 1 thing ilk say about Engstrom is I also rly like him. He can potentially be a PP LD, one we haven't had since Markov really.
