the only ones that would make ''some sort of sense '' for the other teams would be dallas and vancouver. unfortunatly there is a big chance these teams are.on petry NTC. but maybe he could waive.

He wasn't amendable to waiving for Dubas. Doubt he expected to be sent back to Montreal. Likely didn't list Montreal on his NTC as he didn't think it a possibility. He'll probably have all of these teams blocked other than DET.

I'd take the Kings out of this discussion.

Due to the Kings goalie situation, they need to keep their shutdown players like Roy (Anderson and Gavrikov) more than they need Petry. On the right side the Kings have Clarke and Spence ready, so Petry to LA doesn't really make sense.

I doubt that Petry would want to come to the West Coast and as my esteemed friend @tryger says, he isn't the sort of RhD we need.

Looks like Petry wants to stay in in Eastern side of the USA. Wings/Sabres/Columbus/Hawks have the cap cap for him.
Now part of the reason Petry wanted to be in USA was the Covid travel restrictions that occurred so maybe he is fine with Montreal now.
But IMO the. Habs should trade...."outta of kindness" if he truly wants to be around the Detroit area. And the Habs shouldn't be asked for much.

Im starting to understand why wings fans are always in a pissy mood. And that Nashville trade makes them worse too.

Petry’s in-laws live in Houston, so Dallas or anywhere close would likely be acceptable. Given his career is coming to a close I expect he will end up on a contender.

Nashville is rebuilding. They arent giving you a 2nd to get older. If anything, we are looking to trade one of our RHD (Fabbro, Carrier, Barrie) for a pick or a younger player with similar ceiling.

Dallas is the only team I see as a fit for both the team acquiring Petry and Petry himself.

Detroit didn’t sign Ghost to trade him now. At the deadline with retention the Wings can get more than Petry while downgrading from a 2nd to a 3rd.

Reports are that Petry will only waive for the East Coast, So Dallas, Nashville, LA and Vancouver aren't happening. And if we take on Petry than Chiarot is the one going the other way not Gostisbehere.

Yeah but Habs fans have to be getting sick of being which happens every time they post a Montreal to Detroit trade.

I'm just thinking that Habs aren't going to be a playoff team this year and probably not in 25/26. They it would be a nice ":good will gesture" to other players/agents in the future, that the Habs will "work" with a player. The Habs may not get true value in a trade in Petry, but it may be worth it for the future goodwill which can help the Habs when they are serious playoff contenders.
And really, do you want a veteran NHL Dman on your team when he really doesn't want to be on your team?

Nah from a Dallas fan, if he only had one year on that deal (so he could be gone after the season) and we could change that 2nd to a 1st to pay them to take Suter instead of Hakanpaa….then maybe. I don’t think he’s worth a second but with 50% retention I get it, take out the 5th out either way it doesn’t move the needle you might as well keep it.

I get that but why would a GM bring a player to his team that doesn't want to be there? I get why we see it on CapFriendly.com because they think they can just flip him which is about as ridiculous as thinking every pending UFA will come with an extension. But in reality NHL GMs don't take on players they don't want. So wouldn't be just as likely that Montreal took Petry back because they can use him or he'd rather be in Montreal than in Pittsburgh. Maybe Montreal is his 2nd choice and he has realized Detroit just isn't going to happen.

For Petry's sake, I hope he likes Montreal for the next two years. I do think it was more of a Covid restrictions for his family that made Montreal and Canadian teams for American players with families in the US.
Habs did OK on the Petry trade with the Pens/Sharks. Anything else if they trade Petry is a bonus.

Thanks everyone for the feedback; interesting to notice that most people think Petry’s market is essentially limited to the Eastern conference - or Texas! If that’s indeed the case and West Coast team are out of the running, my first guess is that he’d be Dallas-bound and my fall-back would be Detroit. Since there’s no clear identifiable « cap dump » in the Red Wings’ case, the return would be more Edmundson-like (best asset fetched being a 3rd instead of a 2nd.)
