Funny because I was going to say the same about fabbri 😂
At least rust can score . Fabbri hasn’t had a good season in (checks notes) oh look at that he’s never once had a good season and makes nearly as much as rust.
I don’t even think Arizona would want him and his 4 million cap him for just FC lmao

Or Detroit could just dump Fabbri to AZ for FC and not have to take on the Rust contract. And hard pass on the CBJ deal.

Biased. Fabbri is 27 with two years left on his contract while Rust is 31 with five years left on his contract - Pretty easy to say which contract is riskier.

"At least rust can score" Fabbri 84 games in the last two seasons = 24 goals. Rust 81 games played this season = 20 goals. The only big downside with Fabbri is that he just can't stay healthy.

lol I love how you call me biased then admit your asset sucks cuz he can’t stay healthy😂
Isn’t it pretty important for a hockey player to , you know, be available to play hockey ?

Let's imagine Rust is tradable. Would the Pens be better with 13.5m Matthews or 8m Guentzel and 5.5m in cap for a centre?

I never said that Fabbri sucks. I actual think that he's the Red Wings most underrated player atm.

I agree about Fabbri but I'll keep him just because of the cheaper salary and it ends a lot sooner.

Why is it that Pittsburgh rids it self of Rust tand takes on Fabbri and a 3rd round pick and then get rid of him to Arizona. Win/win for Pens and Wings take on a 31 year old with 4 years left. You make it like Dubas is a genius and every other Gm, is stupid.

In this scenario Wings take on more cap and length of deal, Arizona take on a player for nothing and Pens clear cap and get a pick to do so. Not saying Rust is bad and Fabbri is better but it is all cap management and something Yzerman has done very well.

Agree with you. Cap management is so important for a team to be successful. Wings and Sabres two rising teams with true NHL prospects and cap flexibility....gonna be a force in the East very soon.

Dubas a genius? Bad cap manager, bad trader, bad drafter.

I'm not sure how a GM who's never won anything at the NHL level is a genius? 🤔

As we see in the NHL (and all businesses) people that look the part and talk the part....get the jobs cause their employers think they are soooooo smart.
Brian Burke and John Tortella are great example. Great on TV, funny and are look to be smart analysis. But put them in a position of responsibly .....failures by incompetence.

I'll never understand how the long time now retired GM David Poile of Nashville was so revered. Any other GM with his on ice record would have been fired five times over.
I guess he was so revered because he had a GM job for so long. After 25 years the owners of the Preds realized that his job was not the Pope. Didn't have wait for him to die before being replaced.

He's only on the book through 24-25 season. Moving him next off season for 4 seasons of Rust doesn't make sense at all. He'll be 36 by the end of the contract.

Can't see Detroit wanting to get tied into that Rust contract, Yzerman has already signed a few questionable ones as it is.

    The Pens should keep M.Pettersson.

keep AZ out of this, fabbri might be solid player but hes injured more than playing (little trade value). Cant see Wings wanting to take rust until 36 @ that cap hit.

2x4M for a player that's on LTIR for over half of the time (not against the cap hit), or 5x5.125M for a 31 year old.

No need to bull**** yourself, dude.

As much as it would be hilarious for dubas to snag a star out of Toronto, I don’t think it happens bc all, yes all, of torontos good players in their core fight for every dollar they get. That is totally anti the penguins way, where almost every player has taken less AAV to keep everyone together… plus the penguins won’t be able to fit in another massive contract… a good player that takes a bit less for sure but not another 8-digit contract

You might be better off keeping Fabbri. He probably goes on to LTIR shortly after the seasons starts. Then bring him back for the playoffs well rested.

lol you’d rather have a player on IR than a player helping your team win ? That tells me all I need to know

It is cap management, something people on this site do not understand. There is not an unlimited amount of money. And the funniest part this poster thinks he can peddle Fabbri for nothing. I never said Rust was bad or not a good player, what I said was his cap hit and length of deal is what is the sticking issue. Again people on here DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT. Yzerman has several RFA coming up next year and will need those cap dollars to resign them. What happens if the cap does not go up and he is stuck with a contract that probably does not age well. Yes Fabbri is hurt alot, no arguement, but he can be placed on LTIR and Stevie gets a pass, whereas he might not with Rust and then he has to make deals that hurt the team to get other signed. Rust is not a bad player but Yzerman has preached flexibility, and adding a 31 with years on his deal is not a flexibility move. Fabbri has two years left and he can walk away and use that money in other places, whereas Rust has two more years in his deal and that money is tied up.

For a team that's not in win-now, a player like Rust does not matter.

For a team that's trying to win later, a contract like Rust's does matter.
