Pettersson’s value > Pastrnak’s value
Podkolzin > Beecher

Zero reason for the Canucks to do that

He's signed through the end of this season, we can worry about next season later. Even if he won't sign long term, the Canucks won't be giving him away.

Obtaining a 60 goal scorer signed long term is giving him away?

Elite 1C can take arbitration award and walk to UFA, so no, in a trade he is not worth more

The likelihood of that happening is about 1%

Assuming Pettersson signs an extension similar to Pastrnak’s, the Broons are getting the edge here. And Podkolzin for Beecher makes it more lopsided.

Maybe try deal for JT Miller

very unlikely outcome. this would be like sayiing pastrnak is an elite 1rw that could break his leg and never play again. chances are so minute its not even worth bringing up

Pasta could've easily walked too, but guess what? He didn't. Pretty poor argument. Tell me the last time a star player has actually taken arbitration and went straight to UFA

Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Reinhart, Kevin fiala, Timo meier, Alex debrincat all used that threat to be traded in the exact same scenario and those are only the ones I can remember off the top of my head

Outside of Tkachuk, none of those players are even in the same stratosphere in terms of player caliber. Matthew Tkachuk was traded for a 110 point winger AND a top pair RHD + a 1st round pick and prospect

I was told it never happens. I listed all the times it happened off the top of my head.

If pettersson refuses to sign, which is the only way he gets traded and STILL gets a player like David pastrnak, it will be the best work done by a gm maybe ever

Without an elite center to set up those goals I doubt he's still a 60 goal scorer.

kevin fiala and time meier were not traded because they werent willing to sign long term, they were traded becasue it made more sense for their teams to deal them rather than retain the,.

maybe you meant piere luc dubois?

anyways, no evidence at all that pettersson is wanting out or won't sign with vancouver. still 2 years before he is a ufa. not something to be worried about right now at all. like i said, its like worrying about a player in a trade suffering a career ending injury. such a small chance that it will happen why bother even worrying about it

His most common linemates were an out of retirement david krejci and Pavel zacha

He played with krejci and either zacha or hall almost 50% of his even strength shifts

All of these are made if he won't sign. Plenty of stars sign well before their contracts are up

Pasta has played more relevant hockey and would have won the Hart if not for McDavid. Best RW in the league vs the #10 center in the league.

The open issue is most good players seem to force their way out of Vancouver; so the length of contract is NOT a positive for you guys. For as good as he is, he can’t seem to elevate Vancouver for whatever reason.

Pasta isn’t going anywhere. I hope Vancouver can convince Elias to stay. It’s a beautiful city with a poorly run hockey team

The #2/3 RW in the league vs the #5/6 center in the league. With center being the more valuable position and Pettersson being younger, he is more valuable, even though I’d say Pastrnak is a better player currently
