Well Dach might be done for the season

Created by: Caufield

Description
MTL cannot afford to "Tank" again. I know it is what the fans want, but it is horrible for Slaf, Suzuki's, Newhooks, and basically the defense core's development, (I think Caufield is already a star in a situation where the team won't matter he will still perform at good rates). MTL might need to consider finding a middle 6, or even top 6 wingers if they try out Heineman, Roy, or RHP and all 3 don't work out great in the top 6 this year. It is possible that one of these 3 can be an effective 2nd line guy and we don't need to trade for anyone, but if they don't, these could be good ideas for trades.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Palat, Ondrej
Additional Details:
Highly doubt he will be traded and waived to MTL, but he could be great in the top 6 if he goes to MTL
NJD
2.
MTL
  1. Wahlstrom, Oliver
Additional Details:
IDK what his situation is, but maybe a chance to turn over his career
NYI
3.
MTL
  1. Joseph, Mathieu
Additional Details:
His value rose significantly, but I do like his play quite a bit

Well, well, well, another Garland trade talk lol

As a diehard Tolvanen fan, it’d hurt me to see him on MTL. I think SEA is the right fit, and they should move one of their older guys for picks in the scenario you talk about.

Also, Dach is done. I don’t think he’ll get back from a torn ACL and MCL before April

What a massive blow to the team if Dach's gone for the year. He looked really good in the first couple games.

I agree MTL shouldn't "tank" per se, but it also doesn't make a lot of sense for them to give up assets for veteran players that really won't help them when they're in their prime competitive window. Of the guys on your list they could easily add Joseph or Garland without giving up much of anything, so that could be a decent play.

IMO, MTL will not trade for anyone, as I do think one of the guys I listed in MTL system will play ok in the top 6. However, if there was one guy I'd target, it might actually be Tolvanen. I have no clue if he is a right fit for MTL play style, but I feel like he would do pretty good with questionable depth at LW

I feel completely awful for the kid. That sucks and my thoughts are with him. He's got to stay strong mentally. Just really sucks to hear that news.

Sadly, it's true. IMO he has better potential than Suzuki, but this injury might blow his development path completely and may not return to a good enough level of play to beat Suzuki of the 1C

Devils likely aren't moving Palat midseason.

The guy cannot catch a break, he gets injured every year, but the whole season is just something else

I don't think we need to panic yet, we were gonna be last place anyway. We have tons of prospects that we need to showcase/figure out what we're doing with so I think we take that silver lining and put it to use. Getting the guys in Laval some more NHL time is also good for development of the rest of the future, not to mention Slaf/Cauf/Suz/Dach/Newhook/Etc are going to need to develop the chemistry with them as well. Losing Dach is a tough blow but there's plenty of prospects who almost cracked the roster when there wasn't room, anything is possible.

Of the players you've suggested above, only Wahlstrom is one I'd target and I've wanted to target him for a while.

This is just the first of what is going to be many injuries for this team again. Let's see what the internal talent has to offer before adding anything less than a star player.

Sucks for Dach…get him back for game or two at end of year if you can. Removes any inhibition from coming back following summer. Longer recovery windows just cause other problems. (I am not a doctor…but have had same injury).

Devils put an “A” on Palat. He’s gonna stay here a while.

What about Dominik Kubalik? He could be had for cheap and will get you 20+ goals.

Maybe, but I don't think he has enough consistency to be the right guy

If you're looking for offence, there isn't anyone else out there you can have for dirt cheap who can score goals.

Damn, I didn't realize that outside of Slafkovsky, most Habs players are already 23+. All of Sanderson, Stutzle, Greig, Pinto, Jarventie, Kleven are younger. Good news for the Habs is they have great talent in the pool with Hutson, Reinbacher, Roy, Beck and maybe several others.

Dorion hasn't done something to piss me off in months (well outside of this ultra ridiculous situation of having no plan after signing Tarasenko), so he better NOT trade Mathieu Joseph to Montreal.

Kubalik is an option you should consider, having another great shot after Caufield on the PP would help. He's not a great player but he does everything decently well and has that shot and particularly one-timer that he abuses like crazy lol

He would buy you some time and worst case scenario, if other young players emerge, you trade him at the deadline and get a better return than you'd pay now (maybe 2nd/3rd vs 5th now or something like that)

Tolvanen would cost a pretty penny though, like a good prospect and a pick. Unless I am mistaken in the picking order, I have no idea why Dorion didn't pick him on waivers last season. I know Tolvanen was going to better than believed in Nashville

Was beaten to it by @Xspyrit - give OTT a 5th for Kubalik, let him pot some goals for you then move him for a higher pick at the deadline. Nothing but gain on that move.
