MTL AND EDM COULD WORK ON A BLOCKBUSTER PER DREGER

Created by: batman
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 22, 2023
Published: Nov. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
MTL
  1. Bourgault, Xavier
  2. Ceci, Cody
  3. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
  4. 2026 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Honestly this trade feels like a step back for us. I really want to keep Monty but at what price. For this kind of return ( we taking on Ceci ) we should do it. Kovacevic is so underrated and I’m sure he has a LOT of value. We help EDM clear cap.

Who exactly do you think Montembeault and Kovacevic are? They aren’t worth nearly that much

Friedman's 32 thoughts always amuse me. Some of his latest:

1. Edmonton, with two crummy goalies, might be interested in one of Montreal's, especially since they have three of them on the roster.
2. Colorado might be interested in help at forward, in light of the injuries to Gabriel Landeskog and Artturi Lehkonen.
3. This winter it will snow and be cold in Canada, and the sun will still rise in the East.

To get Monty out of town it’s going to cost a 1st or Bourgault. Might seem extended but Kovacevic could bring back us something very interesting like a 1st or a 2nd. He’s on a steal of a contract below league minimum and has 2 more years left on it. He’s still relatively young and has been playing great. Kind of like Logan Thompson. We’re taking on Ceci for 2 more years and helping edm Clear about 3M in cap space. If you think about it my trade isn’t that crazy.

Man the comps are there. Rittich, Korpi, Desmith, Adin hill. You could probably sell someone up to a 2nd with great negotiating skills, but the list of successful goalies who weren't good at either the KHL/AHL/NHL level until they were 26 isn't long. Best example is probably Rittich, who again didn't pan out into anything after 2 solid years in Calgary at age 26/27.

Robin Lehner at 1.1 million dollars, 28 years old, who had a 3rd place vezina finish the year before, was in the middle of a 6th place vezina campaign, and had a 7 year quality track record with 0 injury history at the time got a 2nd and a 5th

Kovy is a solid 3rd pairing dman who can handle sheltered 3rd pairing minutes. Teams are going to want that depth/injury insurance as either a 6/7D. But he doesn't have upside and he doesn't have a track record with bigger minutes, he's not going for that much.

A depth dman like Kovacevic is not worth a 1st or 2nd 💀

He’s worth a mid round pick

Campbell contract (and not ceci) has to be going the other way, otherwise that package makes zero sense.

Maybe because we are actually capable to have a return like this for players🙄
Toffoli got us a 1st + 2nd ++ Chiarot got us a 1st ++ Romanov got us a 1st ( Dach ) Kulak got us a 2nd ++ ( we got one of the best player in the draft with this pick Hutson ) Monahan got us a 1st and we might get another one..

I think the reason why Monty could fetch a 1st as a return from EDM only is his serviceable numbers and his low cap hit. In a vacuum, he isn't worth more than a 3rd, but in the perfect storm that is EDM, he could go for a 1st.

That being said, if EDM is paying to move out an expensive contract (Ceci), they would not be interested in paying premium for a questionable upgrade in goal; it will be one or the other. If they're paying for Ceci to move and getting that cap relief, they have more options for a goalie and could get a better one on a more expensive contract (Samsonov?) for around what it would cost for Monty.

With the way EDM defense has been though, I don't see them moving on from Ceci. They'd likely trade for Monty alone and it may just end up being a 1st. Depends how desperate Holland gets and how the contract negotiations go.

I wouldn't say an idiot he has built up connections over the years which puts him in a much better position to speculate about trades and such. But like most of the good trade speculators his average is about the same as if you were to flip a coin. I think people but way too much stock in what Dreger, Friedman, Button and others say.

I don't think he's well connected. Listen to him talk, everything he says ends with "we'll just have to wait and see."

He's a talking head, he gets paid to speculate. No NHL front office staff is leaking rumours to journalists - none. That's why everything is anonymous. Pierre McGuire used to do it all the time.

"I was talking to a NHL rep just yesterday and he told me they were in on Chris Pronger."

"Who was the rep?"

"Oh well I can't say that."

People on here base their value on chel and think players value is absolute.
