Created by: Woll4Vezina
Team: 2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 13, 2023
Published: Dec. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- McDavid is custom so I can have his contract with the leafs as capfriendly only goes up to 2025-26 which is connors last season on his current contract
-Stamkos is here assuming he takes a hometown cut
-Assuming Tavares does the same for his next contract
-Bussi is a solid upcoming goalie but stuck behind ullmark and swayman, should be ready to back up woll by 2026
-Harley and Andersson are both solid defensemen that the leafs are able to afford with the huge contracts in the forward department
-Kempe and kaliyev are both good forwards that can help fill the gap (along with Stamkos and mcdavid) left by Marner
-Samsonov either wants a starting role elsewhere or leafs can’t afford him

All assuming the cap goes up (cap is estimated)

Tavares declines, Stamkos declines, Calgary declines, LA declines.

When Tavares as a PPG center hits the market, and the only other options on the market are Drai (ridiculous contract), Brock nelson, and Tavares. Tavares isn't going to sit there and take a 3C payment without term

Marner may be the odd man out, but he won't be the one-season man in with Los Angeles.

McDavid wants to win a Cup. No way he’d pick the biggest loser organization in NHL history.

No i believe in this scenario they don't even trade him as a rental. They somehow convince marner to sign a deal without a no move clause and then immediately trade him for 4 1sts of value. Because surely the kings if they wanted marner would rather trade all those assets for him instead of just signing him as a UFA themselves

I'd rather have Kempe at $5.5M than Marner at whatever ungodly amount of money he wants. Take out the 1st round picks and still no.

The cap doesn't work like that. You have the cap going up by about 18% but refuse to give bottom enders a raise....gee you've reduced Liljgren's salary.
Shouldn't McDavid be playnig centre?
There is way to for the Leafs to get McDavid but this ain't it.

So you're offersheeting Bussi? For 1.35 I imagine the Bruins match if they're intent on running with Sway long term, if not then fill your boots

Tavares won’t cost that much he’ll probably only ask for 3 or 4 million Nylander is also overpaid by a million or 2 and Mitch is gonna be a **** and ask for way more than that

In 2026-27 (which the ACGM is supposed to represent), Marner would be in the second year of his new contract, doubt he signs a deal that doesn't have a NMC in the first few years (likely has a full one all the way through), so it would probably be more to convince him to waive for some other team but doubt he would. OP also gave McDavid 8-years but makes no mention of how that would happen.

It would be in the offseason after the first year of Marner's supposed new deal. Which makes the whole thing fall apart.

Because if the kings wanted Marner, why wouldn't they just offer more than this has the leafs offering and save all the other assets, only paying marner in money.
And if marner preferred LA over Toronto (which is the only way he'd waive a full NMC), then why wouldn't he just sign with them in Free Agency so they can have a better team around him

Right, the 2026 off-season (when McDavid is a FA) so he would either have signed with LA already via FA in the 2025 off-season or be under contract with the Leafs. From the sounds of it, he's saying Marner is moved because they have McDavid. Or is that trade supposed to have happened in the previous year (2025-26 which this ACGM is dated because you can't make a 2026-27 one), where they are acquiring McDavid in his final year via trade, then trading Marner in the 1st year of his new contract? Maybe, I missed part one.

I have no idea. Regardless marner has an NMC rn and is gonna have an NMC for the next decade regardless of where he’s playing or how much he’s making.

The value of that Detroit is fine. But Detroit already has too many defensemen so I don't see it happening.

I don’t know why but I feel like Tavares would take 6M but for 3 years (like Bergeron before he retired) just to try and win a cup

Stamkos is taking a discount maybe from one place and while it starts with a T it isn’t in Ontario.

Bergeron took that 1 year when he was 38 to the team he’d been with his entire career, while others took discounts too.
Tavares at 34 years old isn’t taking a massive discount so he can continue to get all the blame and make sure that you can afford to give it all to Nylander and Matthews on their top of the market extensions.

How many playoffs series you guys win in the last 10 years? 1?

How many cups in the last 30 years? 0?

Leafs are the least successful organization in all of North American pro sports. Haven’t sniffed a championship since 1967. That’s historic levels of failure.

There are a number of other franchises that can challenge this point, but I can tell discussing any of it with you would just be a series of goalpost moving and grade school insults so I won't bother. Just want to let you know you're wrong.

Of course you’d like to tell me I’m wrong while also not providing any reasons to say I’m wrong. That’s an easy way out of an argument you can’t win, cause you know the Leaf’s and their historic failures since 1967 shows they are one of the biggest jokes in North American sports.
