Giving away Marino is a bad idea.

Marino is worth more than a 2nd. Regardless, CHI isn't buying right now. Though, Marino would be an appealing acquisition at his age and with Murphy expiring in a couple years.

Some team will give you a 2nd for Marino but it won't be the Hawks. No interest in Bastian either.

Keep Marino!

Why? Dougie will be back, Nemec has exploded onto the scene and will only improve, and Miller has been better. Marino has taken a legitimate step backward this year.

Out of the 8 defensemen on this roster, this is where Marino ranks:

Corsi = 46% (6th)
Fenwick = 44% (7th)
On-ice Goals % = 36.1 (8th)
On-ice Expected Goals Against/60 min = 3.63 (8th)
On-ice High Danger Shot Attempts Against/60 min = 3.87 (6th)

I do like Marino...actually, I loved him last year. I get that some of these numbers will be skewed due to bad goaltending, but he has been without a doubt a massive defensive liability which is the exact opposite of what we need from him. Give Nemec his 2nd pairing role and move him to help fulfill a different need (such as the Swayman extension).

I'd keep Marino and I can't think they move Swayman unless they get blown away by an offer.

Boston isn’t trading Swayman and no retention on Vanacek at this point is probably worth a 2nd. Some may argue a 3rd.

A mid-1st round pick and (now) A prospect not good enough? Vitek is just a throw in for contract reasons. You can flip him to someone else for more assets.

Do you have the data to support that?

I would think a mid 1st rounder and an A-rated prospect would be quite good.

Yes. His QOC (quality of competition) is in the 95th%ile last I checked and his QOT (quality of teammates) is quite low.

He needs a legit partner, or easier minutes

totally fair criticism. I still think he is expendable though with Nemec showing to be way more NHL-ready than we expected. We all know Dougie isn't going anywhere, and I doubt we have a desire to pay over $4mil to a guy on the 3rd pairing.

EDIT: Also considering we could use that $ towards Mercer/Hughes extensions.

Trade him when the Hughes extension comes through then if need be unless a big offer comes in. No reason to move him now.

It's not a bad offer and maybe they really like one of the prospects and bite on it but with how sway looks you'd think moving ulmark and signing Swayman long term is more of a play for Boston.

Boston declines so if that means you are wrong so be it. Take out Vanacek and they still decline. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Swayman is not getting moved unless he tells them he wants out.

quadruple it. of course its not enough. he's a top five goalie in the league and he's 25. target ullmark. at least that could make some sense.

That package is closer to Ullmark’s value than Swayman’s.

Sounds like Cory Schneider when he was traded for just the 9th overall pick

It isn’t. People read way too much into it taking it out of context. Obviously it has stuck with him which is why players should never sit in on them.

His comment was basically saying the AS game is nice validation for him after all the negative 💩 he had to hear during arb hearing.

He also backed off it a day later.
