Off Season

Created by: Nick_SUCCzuki
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2024
Published: Apr. 3, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Matheson Trade: Opens a roster spot for the team, and gets assets that can be used to acquire below player. Carolina gets an offensive d on a good contract who can replace Skjei on the second pairing.

Johnston: Would fit nicely into our top 6. Habs are missing elite pieces, so hopefully they can add either him or Zegras with a similar package. 2 later firsts plus Barron and Armia (who has been our 5th best forward this year after the big 3, Roy and Newhook).

Draft Pick: If Lidstrom and Demidov are both gone, pick BPA, even if he's a defenseman.

Overall, I think this team would be much better than this year, but will miss playoffs due to a pretty rough defensive core. With Reinbacher and Hutson playing the top pairing in Laval, hopefully both guys will make the team in 2025-26 and we can sneak into a wild card

Don't know why Carolina would pay that for what would be a third pairing defenseman on their team?
You aren't getting Kent Johnson for scraps.

The Habs' castaways and late 1sts are of no interest to the Jackets if they're asking for Kent Johnson.

Jackets easily pass. You have to give to get, and you arent giving anything of interest.

I think we can aim higher with Matheson - the guy is on CHEAP contract and is projected for 60 pts this season.

I'm sure a team in the 12-to 15 range this draft could be interested.

Orlov >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Matheson, Orlov is a genuine top pairing D man. Matheson is a good top 4 guy that can QB a PP.

Even this season, Orlov's playing on his own because Chatfield is as useful as a Christmas ornament, and that pairing is top of the league in xGA... he's been a BEAST. He just hasn't showed up on the score sheet because he's on a pairing by himself

Matheson probably slots into the 3rd pairing. His point total this year is skewed by his pp production, 26pp points, most of which are secondary assist where he is dumping the puck down to a forward who then makes a play. Factor that in with the amount of mistake he makes on a nightly basis i'd be extremely happy to see him leave for whatever they could get back. I think they will look to open up more opportunities for the younger core and Savard is the more logical option to keep around is you want a vet in the room, his value wont be as high in a trade and you want young dman playing with his level of intensity.

Gee I wonder why the Canes brought in Orlov. Oh yeah, to be the replacement for Skjei if he walks. Matheson plays 3LD every day behind Slavin and Orlov, and then proceeds to get scratched when Nikishin comes over. Canes would love to have Matheson, but it makes no sense, especially with other players needing to be signed more.

If Lindstrom is there for us we would take him, i would hope. We dont need DEF, we need to take BPA.

BPA will be a Def at 4th one of Silayev or Levchunov... hopefully for you Silayev LHD to pair with jiricek

We already have Werenski and Mateychuk, so like i said defense really isnt much of a need.

I like Mateychuk game @ 5'11'' but Silayev at 6'7'' or Levch who we compare to Power... better BPA then Lindstrom and you are logjam at C: Fantilli, Voronkov, Sillinger, Johnson... If Demidov is gone you have to go with of of these two...

"Johnston: Would fit nicely into our top 6."

If you're going to get us to click on your post for what amounts to the same trade that's on here 4 times a day, minimum...you could at least get his name right.

The only pieces CBJ would consider in a Johnson trade are the ones MTL would be unwilling to move (Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Reinbacher, 2024 1st unprotected). The idea isn't original or feasible, please Habs fans: let it die.
