Sabres
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rktkt66</b></div><div>If it ends up being any of the 3, the Sabres would have had a 80% successful offseason (depending on what they do in goal). With so many of the young players due for renewals or extensions next summer, I just think that Adams will probably keep the long-term more in mind with regards to age and term of deals. We don't see a lot of quality defensemen still performing well at age 35 or older so there's a legitimate risk IMO in giving a 7 or 8 year deal to a player closer to 30. Of the 3 options, Hanifin is arguably the best natural skater - a trait that usually allows players to still contribute as they age.</div></div>
If Pesce/Toews give us 5-6 years of a good game, it will suit me completely.

Sabres
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rktkt66</b></div><div>Not unrealistic but I wonder if the Sabres do end up trading for someone that will need a long-term extension of another 7-8 years at big cap hit, is it smarter to target someone younger like Hanifin (26) over someone like Pesce (28) or Toews (29). Both are solid proven to 4 defenders and played under Granato at USNTDP; obviously, Pesce's RHD natural side looks nice on paper but we've learned that neither Granato nor Adams place much emphasis on a defenseman's handedness. If Power can adjust to RH side, Hanifin as his partner is probably more of a 2A/2B pairing where neither is just an offensive rover or defensive stay-at-home type. Pesce would likely be a little more conservative offensively like Samuelsson's role next to Dahlin is.
Rumors are both players are on Sabres' radar - and, with latest report that Hanifin has apparently told the Flames he won't extend with them, while Pesce said he'd like to stay in Carolina, it could play out in Buffalo's favor. The package would probably be similar to what you proposed for Pesce - I'd be more comfortable in Hanifin contributing at the end of a 7 or 8 year deal than I would with Pesce.</div></div>
I'm not sure yet that they want Power to play on RD. Maybe four lds in the top 4 is no problem for them and Adams was trying to trade for Chychrun, but Chychrun does have a lot of experience playing the RD. Hanifin doesn't seem to play RD or doesn't play very well.
Perhaps it would be pairs:
Hanifin - Dahlin
Power - Samuelsson
In principle, this is not a problem for me, Hanifin would also be a good target. Although I would be very happy with Pesce or Toews.

Question - BUF and SJS Fans
I would think about it, people just don't seem to know that Faulk is a good two-way defenseman and decent defensively. We don't necessarily need a guy who just sits at home and does nothing. A two way defenseman is also good.

Why not use Faulk's deal as an example then? Bokk + Edmundson for Faulk.

if we absolutely must
I think 13 could be on the table, for example, swap 1st. Adams kick tires how to move up or down in the draft.
#13+ for Pesce + #30
We have good scouts and analysts, and Adams picked players like Peterka and Kulich in the second and at late first. Plus, he's not afraid to take on Russian players who fall in the draft.

Trading Toews sigh
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swissmontana</b></div><div>do you think Buffalo would take Girard plus a 1st instead of Toews? just playing out some permutations of this, i'm curious. With girard you get term.</div></div>
I would not, because we don't need Girard, just not the right type of defenseman. Toews is much better on defense and on PK, he can easily eat minutes of the first pair.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>homiedaclown</b></div><div>You’re getting ripped for the Borgen trade,

U don’t move back in the 1st round for a 3rd pair defenseman
Maybe the 2nd, maybe
And haven’t u learned from past mistakes that we shouldn’t play guys higher in the lineup than their talent dictates??
Sabres have made that mistake enough
Pretty sure they’ve learned from those mistakes,
even if you haven’t</div></div>
In the playoffs, he was 4th D TOI for Seattle and played in the top 4. I've already explained above why I don't mind trading that first and keeping 2nd.

Actually realistic
There was also Greenway. But Adams adheres to the philosophy of internal growth of the team. The problem is our goalies sucks and Levi is unproven and fresh out of college, our defense outside of Dahlin, Samuelsson and Power is not very good and there is no depth. So Adams has to add a top 4 D and a goaltender (at least an average one), not necessarily going after big fish like Helle or Saros. And then we'll probably be in the playoffs. Idk, Karmanos or someone else should reason with Adams to add the right parts.

Two Trades to Finish Off
I don't know why Boqvist in Buffalo would be interesting, he's not the type of player we want. Perhaps Andrew Peeke would have made a lot more sense, although I would have preferred a more proven D.
