I feel we need a winger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>massive overpayment for a 27 point (15 goals, 12 assists) in 70 games player?? when did he clear waivers, 4 years ago? and yes hes a depth player but to bring up he cleared waivers 3-4 years ago seems silly considering he turned his game around a lot since then. he just won a Stanley cup I believe he factored in on the gwg ? this "depth , waive clearing player" would have been 3rd on the oilers in goals and 7th in points. but yeah MASSIVE is a great word to describe the 2nd round pick....
edit: at the deadline Patrick maroon got a 3rd round pick and a prospect. he scored 30 points and had 14 goals. incase your math isn't great thats only 3 more points and 1 less goal.
its safe to say a 3rd and a mid level prospect could equal or is close to a 2nd round pick. oh yeah Connelly won a cup last year which in most peoples eye would out weigh the 3 points. (also pretty sure maroon played with mcdcvid) ....the best player in the nhl.
Nash who is older received a 1st and spooner and he had 34 points in 71 games..... Nash is a house hold name but his stat line states hes just a depth player. he had 9 more points 6 more goals.....they gave up a 1st and spooner for him.....just saying</div></div>
I'm not saying Connolly is a bad player & he has improved since Boston traded two 2nd round picks for him, but you don't trade a 2nd round pick for a player who got 27 points (which is barely 3rd line level at the most) unless they're young with potential (Calgary traded a 2nd for Lazar 2 deadlines ago, which hasn't panned out at this point). You could still sign free agents who would get you 27 points (Stempniak, Cammalleri, etc.) or trade less for a player who can get you those points while playing the minutes Connolly got. Also, I was wrong he didn't clear waivers, Boston didn't offer him a qualifying offer.
I see your point regarding Maroon, but it should be noted that he had 2 strong playoff performances in the previous 2 years and was rotating through the 1st line with Getzlaf & Perry that year. He then went and got 14 points in 16 games after the deal and 27 goals the season after. You are correct he did play with McDavid (2nd best behind Crosby) when he was in Edmonton.
That Nash trade was also an over-payment for what he produced, but that was also what the market was for him. Nash is/was a very strong 2-way player as well with great speed despite his huge body. He brings a lot to the table even if hes not scoring. If hes not scoring though then that 7.8mil price tag was too much (which it often was at the end with NYR & BOS). Nash and Connolly are not similar players. Nash excelled at multiple things (even when not scoring) while Connolly does not. I don't see how that trade relates to this but that's my opinion.

Big Trade
No way Vegas trades their best d-man. Eakin will be their 3rd line centre there's no need to get another centre back if you're moving Haula at least move him for a winger. Kruger 4th line with Reaves/Carpenter & Bellemare would be good defensively for sure but basically no offense.

That. That would be a massive overpay for somebody who has cleared waivers and is no more than a depth player at this point in his career

No one seems to know that Merkley tore his ACL again in March of last season & hasn't played any training camp games. Insider information says the Coyotes are aiming for a late November - Mid December return date as Nick is wanting full recovery and for this to be his last serious injury because it's the 2nd time hes torn his right ACL.

Flames are pegged by a lot of experts to make the playoffs and the hockey news has them losing to Winnipeg in the conference finals. Only average NHL fans think Calgary will be bad for some reason. The only derailment in their season is going to be when Smith gets hurt. Flames have great high end forwards, depth forwards, high end defenceman and defenceman depth. Flames wouldn't take back Ceci or his contract, as they have 3 young prospects coming back and Andersson is already good enough to play who is a RHD. Before you make ridiculous comments, do a little research so you can come of the high ropes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>they don't like AA. That contract stuff pissed them off and he isn't exactly a stud. He's not a 20 goal scorer. He's not a 40 point guy, he's an okay third liner that plays a pretty strong game. Cehlarik could be that this year for all we know, and while half the Bruins fans may think Zboril is a bust because he isn't in the NHL yet, he's a high end prospect. This is an absurd overpay for Boston.</div></div>
Wings like AA & the fact that you think you could get him and a 2nd round pick for someone whom I've never heard of & a former 1st round pick who has vastly underwhelmed and can't be considered a high end prospect anymore? Go redo the draft and Zboril isn't a first round pick anymore.

<a href="/users/palhal" target="_blank">@palhal</a> Trouba is good but that is a lot of compensation to get for him, not worth it. Simmonds provides so much value to teams. Gritty right shot right winger who will put up 30 goals plays every situation and a great locker room guy people love him. Why would you not want Simmonds is the question.

Calgary - do u do it
I like Stone I don't know why everyone has so much hate for him. Yes he is a little slower but he is a consistent player who is big, uses his body, good first pass, very hard shot, good defensively and an average hockey IQ. It's hard to show yourself off when you play 3rd pairing minutes with Kulak who is barely a #6 d-man. Stone was a top 4 d-man for 3 seasons in Arizona and when he came to Calgary before the deadline 2 seasons ago. Also worked on his mobility, footwork and speed a lot this summer.
There is no room for Smith in this line-up, especially with Dube playing very well and Klimchuk & Mangiapane showing well. Worth noting that Calgary wanted Smith the past 1.5 seasons though. I am intrigued to learn why Ottawa waived him. I always thought he was a solid middle 6 player who scores timely goals.

These lines are ridiculous. O'Reilly on the 3rd line & Bozak on the 1st?? It would be balanced with Bozak on the 3rd. Also, did you forget about Fabbri he is a skill guy with tons of talent but has been injured for most of the past 2 years. He will play top 9 with PP minutes over Kyrou, Maroon & Thomas.

He was good when he played the 20 games or so out of college and then a good defenseman the next 2 yeas hence the 5mil contract but is getting walked now I don't know what happened. Maybe its confidence that plays a huge part that people don't realize. Who knows. Probably Brendan Smith is the only decent d-man. other than Smith, the last regular NHL d-man Detroit has drafted & developed is Ericsson, I'm pretty sure.

Trade with Buffalo
What a terrible trade for the flames. Girgensons who is a 4th line player now for the Sabres, and Beaulieu who is fighting for the 6th/7th D spot in Buffalo now. Bennett is a 3rd line winger who still has upside and trade value 7 Stone who is a good defenseman coming off a year where the entire flames d-core didn't play up to par.

Perron played LW and Neal played RW. Tkachuk has growing to do defensively other than being a gigantic pest while getting consistent points.
