Tanev
Like the move to get Tanev but I think Vancouver would be less interested in the expiring contract of JVR and more interested in a 1st rounder + young guys like Leivo, Kapanen, or Dermott.

I think you're forgetting that Taylor Hall was traded for Larsson last year. Good defensemen are expensive. And i'd much rather make smaller moves and get a really good defenseman than make a bunch of crazy trades and mess up half of the lineup. I'm sure Marleau is better than Doan but that move is more about motivating the best player on the team and making for a good story that the media can sell.

Brainstorming 1.2
Both trades are terrible. Toronto is letting go of the best player in each of those trades and not getting much back in return. Why do we need to be doing Arizona or LA a favour like that? If Arizona isn't giving up at least OEL and their first PLUS then whats the point? For the LA deal there is no point in holding salary for two guys who only have the potential to be as good as JVR offensively. Toffoli only has one more year left on his deal and he will probably be expecting over 4.5 per on his next contract.

New Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JacobWallman</b></div><div><i>I really like the ideas behind your trades; they make sense and they're ones I haven't seen before. However, they do need to be tweaked, especially the Ducks deal.
Anaheim wouldn't be willing to part with Lindholm and (as much as Carlyle may like Bozak) they're already overcrowded at Center, so the deal could be simplified to the framework of JVR for Andersen. The looming expansion draft may make for a trade market (and thereby drive Andersen's value down) so the Leafs might be able to get some additional value back. Kevin Bieksa is worth next to nothing to the Ducks, so the Leafs could add him for experience/leadership/depth on the blue-line if they were so inclined; he has an NMC, but he could waive it to go home to Ontario (the NMC also means the Leafs would have to buy him out before the expansion draft, but the buyout Cap hit would be minimal at that point). Simon Despres, Brandon Montour, and Josh Manson will likely all be exposed in the expansion draft, so one of them could also be on the table for the right price.</i></div></div>
JVR for Andersen would be a non starter for me. That seems like a overpayment for a goalie. Dont forget that NJ traded their first (9th overall) for Schneider. Shitty trade by Vancouver but even still when was the last time a goalie was traded for a top 6 forward? I think Andersen is good but way too much risk involved. Trade for the defenseman and be patient with goaltending until you find the right guy.

Buyouts for everyone!
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WingFanBT9</b></div><div><i>I think you mixed up your picks in those trades. I don't see Pickard taking a 1st and a 2nd rounder to get that deal done. There are a few teams looking to get Vatanen so you might need to add that 1st rounder there to secure that trade.</i></div></div>
I dont think it much of an over payment. Jones got a late 1st (although I think the assumption would have been a mid-late) and Lehner got a mid-late 1st. Pittsburgh 1st round pick is going to be 29th or 30th. More like a 2nd rounder. And SJS's 2nd will probably be mid-late 2nd round unless they fall off a cliff next year. There really isnt much pressure to trade Pickard at this time so youre going to have to make it interesting for them. I think hes worth taking a chance on.
The Vatanen trade might side with the leafs but my reasons behind it are that I think hes a good defenseman but I dont think hes an amazing or great defenseman. Of all of the ducks young d-men i think hes probably behind Lindholm, Fowler and Theodore. I think the team would rather keep any of those guys. Analysts have reported that he is asking for about 6x6. I dont think the ducks want to make him the highest paid defenseman on a team with better guys coming up soon. Even though Bozak is a center and the ducks are probably looking for a winger I think this works because Bozak is a good Skater that brings some speed to the lineup. Gauthier is a B prospect with size which is what the ducks always look for. Maybe make it the leafs pick instead of the sharks pick so that its earlier in the round.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Yes Tampa lost Stamkos, Johnson and Filppula have plaid well in his absence. Bozak is an upgrade on Boyle. He will get more points and would be more effective on the 2nd line than Boyle would if there were injuries to the top six.
Also thanks for the insight: "TB bring in an upgrade at C..." pretty much every teams goal at every position.

Looks like you've put a lot of thought into this roster, good job. I can appreciate the detail you put into each move. A lot more than most of the hacks on this site. The only thing I wouldn't really agree with you on is the Buffalo trade. I don't think they've fully given up on Girgensons and Foligno to trade them to the Leafs.

LEAFS 2016-17 No Stamkos
I'm not too sure what other goalies the ducks have in their system but unless they want to rush someone. I'm not a big Bernier fan but at about 2 million hes worth it just to fill in while Gibson is still developing. Bozak on the 4th line isnt ideal for a team strapped for cap space but what it does for the leafs is provide flexibility in the lineup and shelter for the younger guys. As for Hamhuis, if you dont think the leafs needs another top 4 defenseman then youre just expecting them to tank for another year. Hamhuis has experience playing on the top line and is easily and upgrade over Hunwick, Marincin or Carrick. Might be a lot of Andersen but I think thats a higher end estimate. Andersen is a good goalie and is closer to Varlamov than he is to Mason, Halak, Reimer and the other 4 mill goalies.

I think its a bit of a stretch to think that Detroit would trade away Larkin. Not sure how long Zetterberg is going to last and once hes gone there will be a giant hole in Center. And is Kornwall that bad that you would trade him for Marc Staal?

No need for Stamkos, we have 4 centres
You guys completely miss the real reason why the leafs needs Stamkos if he becomes available. For one he would automatically become the best player on the team. Most likely he will be captain. All the pressure will be on him to carry the team not any of the younger guys. Want to know why Edmonton has been terrible for so long with all those great picks? Its because there has been too much pressure put on them too early to succeed. They didnt have that transition time to grow into true NHLers. Second, if you look at the team we dont have any true goal scorers except for maybe JVR. Marner and Brown are still rookies, too early to tell how well they can finish in the NHL. Once again do you want to put that pressure on them if they dont make an impact right away? Lastly you sign Stamkos for 7 years he will be 33/34. Pretty much the point where most elite players start to drop off.

Leafs Trade Matthews To Arizona
I find it hard that Keith Tkachuk would come out of retirement just to play with the leafs. Maybe his son Matthew would be a better fit :) Also Christian Devorak usually plays center in London. Not a bad lineup but anything other than OEL for Matthews wouldn't make sense. Matthews is going to be a much better center than Kadri, Dvorak or even Nylander.

Ya I can see that but I think even if he ends up playing the majority of next year in the AHL I think they would still start him with the Leafs to start the season to see if he can cut it.

If the leafs do decide to trade the first overall I would like to see Dvorak and two first rounders coming the other way. I would consider Domi but I dont think it would be smart for the coyotes to start trading away all their best wingers. Matthews needs someone to play with.

The guys from the leafs are the exact type of players the oilers needs. They needs stability they need toughness or would plus they get a prospect who did win the OHL scoring title last time he played with McDavid. I would say maybe the leafs could add their second 1st or a high 2nd rounder to even it out. Show me a trade that gets the oilers what they need?
I would rather have Polak, less injury prone.
And yes 7.5 for Backas is a huge overpayment. But I dont know where youre looking but I dont see a huge lineup of good NHLers just waiting to sign with the Oilers on July 1st. Thats what you have to do and thats the type of player they need. Backas would give Mcdavid and Matthews more time to develop their two way game.

Why because of all the two way forwards Edmonton is stocked with? Edmonton has plenty of young skill, they need sandpaper. They get Komarov who can play up and down the lineup and can actually throw a body check, they get Hunwick who is solid in a limited role and they get Brown who is a solid right winger prospect. Instead of trying to troll everyone why don't you suggest a better trade?

There isnt any point to making this trade. I think I would rather have Matthews and Reilly than OEL and Strome. I don't think Reilly will be better offensively than OEL but I think he'll be a better 2 way defenseman. Matthews vs. Strome is a no contest.

For one I don't think the NHL PA would allow Stamkos to sign anywhere for less than 10 million a season for 7 years. He's probably going to get at least 10.5 regardless of what team he chooses to sign with. Okposo wouldnt sign back with the Islanders for that kind of money why would he take less to go to montreal?

Plot twist!
I like the roster but if Stamkos does somehow end up in Edmonton he would probably be a better fit with Mcdavid than Matthews. Partick Maroon has looked decent this season and I dont think hes going to start the season as a healthy scratch. Edmonton should be able to get a bit more out of a trade with the NYI if they are offering Eberle although I guess the market for good defensemen is slim. I would try to trade Reinhart and try and sign someone like Roman Polak in the off season.
