So Hamilton has permission to speak to other teams regarding his next contract

this is both good and bad for Carolina

If he stays predicting contract will be 8.5x8years

If hes gone teams I can see him going to

1. Edmonton (they can give him a big contract 9+mill)
2. Philadelphia
3. Winnipeg
4. Very Very slim chance Toronto. They can give him 8 but in 3 years it causes issues.

Dougie and contract negotiations often dont go well

Thats why Boston moved him along with Calgary.

So most likely thats why Carolina gave him permission as it seems things are not going well.

But this could be very beneficial for them as if its a sign and trade Carolina can get a monster return. Or it could help them set up his next contract like what happened with Aho

Either way if Hamilton goes and if its a sign and trade Carolina can just flip some of the assets and get Seth Jones who should be much cheaper to extend

Wow, Carolina has a lot more cap space than I thought. They have $27M in cap space. So let’s say $7M for Svechnikov, $7M for 2 goalies, and $5 million for players like Martinook, Bean, & McGinn in addition to other depth roster players. That’s still $8 million in cap space available. Now Seth Jones would be a terrible use of their cap space, but they have a lot of options.

Official NHL list of exempt by injury players

Anyone who thought someone like Klefbom or Bishop would be exempt was wrong as they could still play, these guys won't or at least don't look like it

There are four days between Klefbom and Lundqvist's last games. Four actual goddamn calendar days. Henrik is ON THE RECORD of wanting to play next year. Klefbom is ON THE RECORD of not knowing if he'll be able to. The league prorated last year's season such that the Oilers were forced to give up a draft pick to the Flames, yet won't regarding a player injury?

Bush league. I'm mad as hell about it.

I personally agree with not putting Klefbom on the list

Lay it on me. I absolutely need to see some sort of justification. Every precedent set by the league in the past two seasons indicates that he should have been exempt.

EDIT: and don't get me wrong, Bishop should be exempt too.

Not sure which precedents you mean. Also i see Lundqvist retiring so it makes sense for me, klefbom still has a career ahead of him and should play next year, Bishop, Toews and company too, might just be that you have to either be retired or 35+ with an long term injury

Every decision regarding the shortened seasons up to this one have considered a pro-rated 82 game season. Salaries this season were prorated. It's the only reason Edmonton owed the Flames a draft pick last year. None of the conditions were met on the pick, but the league operated on the assumption that they would have been met over a full season, thus gave Edmonton the option to defer the pick. Everything has operated since last year's shutdown on the pretence of if operations were based on a full season.

What career does Klefbom have ahead of him? What sources or resources can you give me? The rhetoric since the start of this season has been Klefbom not knowing if he can play again post surgery. It's not a typical injury, It's arthritic: it cannot be cured and only maintained. Lundqvist was back on ice in full equipment weeks after his surgery. Klefbom hasn't even been back on skates yet. Lundqvist has openly expressed a desire to return to the NHL. Klefbom would love to, but everything we know continues to indicate that decision is not his yet.

Much like the DoPS, there's a severe lack of consistency regarding how the League flip-flops back between what should and shouldn't be pro-rated. Klefbom was never going to play this year. Bishop was never going to play this year. Why were their shutdowns not prorated over an 82 game season? Klefbom hasn't been on ice since the Oilers were beaten in the bubble by the Blackhawks: he's missed more than a season's worth of hockey already and could be on pace to miss two seasons total. It's absolutely the wrong decision and I'm so disappointingly unsurprised by this decision.

There is no conspiracy but I'm absolutely tired of every decision (and the inconsistency with these decisions) that the League makes being one that kicks the Oilers in the nuts.
