I remember all the praise pre-season. I was one (I believe I was atleast lmaoo) who had them 3rd in the Div. But they just continued to flounder.

But I never woulda predicted this. Mainly cause I was doubting Price and never thought Caufield was this much of the real deal (I mean performing in the playoffs is a huge starting point for some high expectations going forward).

Hopefully MTL can keep this up against COL/VGK (even if they do lose)

honestly at this point the semis were either going to the Leafs or Habs as both teams put up a fight. Edmonton until gm 4 didnt put up much against WPG and WPG proceeded to do the same with the Habs.

Honestly, Mtl was gifted the semi finals as I guess Jets wanted to go on vacation lul.

they played bad enough to where the 2019-2020 Detroit red wings would have beat them or the 2020-2021 buffalo sabers.

I was a big PLD defender/ fan but he’s not really done anything for a while now. Really disappointed that he’s looked just brutal.

its literally the most BULL**** THING. IF Matthews showed up, if 5 mins showed up more in gm 6, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Any team in the North would have beat the R2 jets. They literally played like the leafs did in gm 7. No effort, no hart, and unlike the leafs 0 attempts at comebacks. At least the leafs would come back from 3-0 and 2-0 leads. Jets just gave up and were booking their vacations.

Literally MTL was handed the semi finals on a silver platter lul. To bad against Tampa or Colorado/Vegas its not gonna end well

I'm not sure if you're talking about the finals when you mention Tampa Bay, but to make it clear to everyone in this thread just so we're all on the same page:

Colorado and Vegas were higher in the regular season standings than any of the other teams in the 2nd round, and Winnipeg and Montreal were the two lowest in the regular season standings of the 8 teams in the second round.

Therefore, the winner of Colorado-Vegas will play Montreal in round 3 (and would have played Winnipeg had they won that series). The winner of Tampa Bay-Carolina will play the winner of Boston-NYI.

6: 1980-81 Winnipeg Jets
5 OF 10
Record: 9–57–14

The Jets had just won the final two WHA championships in 1978 and 1979, but the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Earning the nickname "Lose-ipeg," the Jets set a modern sports record by going 30 games without a win and finished 75 points behind the division-winning St. Louis Blues.

Leafs at least put up a fight. Oilers and Jets seemed to just give up. If it was not for 2 OT blunders Leafs would have probs won in gm 5 or 6 but puck luck was not on their side in the dreaded OT

I dunno if you can put what happened in that series down to just puck luck.

You gotta think MB's finally got some long term job security. Of all the teams that went out and brought in big names at the TDL, he got Staal and Gust. And both were utterly useless until this absurd 7-game winning streak. I guess MTL's style is really well suited for the playoffs. They defend as well as anyone. They've gotten elite goaltending, and their forward depth has really been an incredible blessing.

He was just totally invisible for the last 2 months. It's not like he doesn't have the talent, so I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe he's got a confidence problem or maybe there's something going on in his personal life that we're just unaware of. But, he clearly has had top 6 potential his entire life up until this season.

Woah. What a disappointment WPG turned out to be.

In retrospect, I kinda would like to know had things gone differently if the Laine-Dubois swap had never happened. Because both were incredibly meh in their new teams.

I remember when us Stars fans wanting to trade Hintz+ for him. Thank god that didn’t happen.

I hate to say it, but Montreal made it bc they tried lul.

That’s it. They tried, the leafs and habs didn’t and the semis were spoon fed to them neutral

He’s been a healthy scratch since Evans got back from injury in Game 6 against Toronto. He would’ve been a healthy scratch in game 3, but Eric Staal got injured in practice, and he was kept in the lineup for 2 more games because of Lehkonen’s injury.

He’s not in the lineup because he’s had no goals and only 3 assists in his last 17 games, because players like Lehkonen & Evans are great defensive players as well as being just as dangerous (if not more so) than Tatar offensively as of late. It’s a sad end to a few great years in Montréal for Tatar, but I definitely can’t blame Ducharme for making the decision to scratch him.

Does the NHL work like NFL? will he be forced to miss all team activity till after he serves the final game?

I doubt it. I’m pretty sure Tom Wilson still practiced with the team when he had his massive suspension.

Even when tatar is not scoring he tilts the ice in MTL favor. He has a similar isolated impact to guys like Taylor Hall. They need him in the lineup against COL/VGK

I assume he won’t be re-signed and I’m sure being healthy scratched affects how much he’ll get in FA, but anyone who signs him for 2-3 years under 6 mill will be very happy. Could be the steal of the offseason

I agree that whoever signs Tatar will likely be getting a steal of a contract. Unfortunately it just hasn’t clicked recently in Montréal, and he’s going through a rough patch while the rest of the team is playing their best hockey of the season. With how he’s playing right now I’d say he’d be just as useful as Eric Staal as Montréal’s 12th forward (with Evans out), but he isn’t in the lineup because he doesn’t play centre.
