Yea but it is a good eye opener. I always thought Toews was slightly over hyped back in the day too but he was and still kinda is; quite good.

Prime Toews could just disappear into games and appear all over the scoresheet. You could legit watch a game in which he scores 4 points and think "I didn't really notice him out there"

I really hope he plays this season, hockey is a better sport with a healthy Toews.

Dallas gets a top 9 scoring winger, Edmonton gets a 1A/1B goalie, Devils clear room for younger guys. Johnsson and Khudobin have similar cap hit so Dallas can afford

I already yell at Hamilton when he spends almost the entire powerplay fiddling with the puck in our own zone. Don't hate the guy though, and I honestly hope he succeeds in NJ.

More so that Dougie wasn’t a Hurricanes 1st overall pick who they built their franchise around. The same thing would happen with every other fan base if the same thing happened to their team.

Imagine Toronto if Matthews signed with the Yotes on his next contract…

He'll be a UFA and have every right to. If Toronto keeps bottling their playoff runs I don't see why he'd want to stay if going home means so much to him.

In general, after seeing what happened with the Isles and other teams over the years I dont worry as much about losing Matthews. Its basically Toronto or Arizona (if they still have a team) at this point thanks to the flat cap

To add to this, remember when sports critics had the Isles being a 1OA lottery team after JT left. Yet what happened, they sign Trotz and proved everyone wrong and have been consistent in the playoffs. Change could be a good thing for Toronto as who knows we could see the same thing that happened with the Isles happen with Toronto. They lose Matthews, Sign some good depth with the money, and be much better.
