The fact that this is considered “woke” is exactly why it needs to happen. Being bisexual is becoming a more normal thing in general society, and people need to see representation in aspects of life such as movies, sports, etc. to help them feel accepted. Same reason Crazy Rich Asians and Black Panther were such a big deal, but for different minority groups obviously. Same reason Luke Prokop’s story is such a big deal. It is slightly “pandering” (for lack of a better word), but better that a revisionist history kinda deal happens than nothing at all. It would be best to see characters be written as members of the LGBTQ+ community from the start, particularly (imo) if they struggle with their gender/sexual identity for a time, which is very relatable for people in that position. Personally I’d love to see the Magnus Chase trilogy made into a movie/TV series, partially for this reason (as long as its done by literally anyone except the people who made the Lightning Thief movies lol).

I’m sorry but if you want to have a bisexual character, CREATE one, don’t turn a beloved straight icon into a bisexual character

I didn’t like it as much as Riordan’s other books but I think that’s mostly because I just like Greek/Roman mythology more and know more about it than Norse mythology, which I think is a pretty common sentiment. It was also less focused on straight white characters, which makes it slightly less relatable to the majority of people (admittedly myself included), but at the same time important for those minorities represented. Been a while since I read it but I’m pretty sure that Magnus Chase was homeless and bi or pan, was dating someone genderfluid, and there was a Muslim valkyrie. Not necessarily the easiest characters for the majority of people to relate to based on their circumstances. Still a pretty good series though, but I’m a fan of Riordan’s writing in general, I think his world building and character development is usually pretty solid.

Interesting. I felt his writing fell off after the end of the first series. I read both his first and second series (except book 5, it hadn't come out) in the same time frame, and I just felt that it went downhill after the end of the first series. Book 5 was also a disappointment, mostly due to the gratuitous love parts taking away from the exciting storyline (Nico and whatever was going on there, Leo and the girl stuck on the island I felt both were just distracting.

Sounds like there are a lot less people in your leagues, mine has 18 which is why guys like Kempe and Patrick are on my roster.
