Lucic = 2nd to dump.
Zary isn't a top prospect.
He is between a 1st round caliber prospect and a 2nd round caliber prospect.
May I remind you Hoffman is on the worst team in the league, while playing with career ahler laurent Dauphin, and slow brendan Gallagher.
Hoffman still has a bomb on the powerplay, Hoffman can drive play, a good fit for him I think is Washington on a line with eller + hagelin. He would fit amazing on that line along with playing with ovi on the powerplay . Hoffman still has value. More than lucic.
Yeah, Lucic costs a 2nd to dump, and that might happen this summer. Zary is a 1st round calibre prospect, idk why you think his value has dropped at all. He still projects as a talented middle six centre, just like he has for the last few years. He’s only off to a slightly slow start in the AHL because he’s adjusting to the pro game after coming off of a fractured ankle, that doesn’t lessen his value as a prospect. Hoffman is scoring at a 3rd line rate, would not crack Calgary’s top 5 wingers, and would not sniff PP1, so he holds no value to us over Lucic, who is scoring at a similar rate on the 4th line while providing excellent leadership, playoff experience, physicality, and solid enough defense. The difference between current Lucic and current Hoffman is nil imo, and honestly probably makes the Flames worse as currently constructed, especially come playoffs. You don’t get to trade him based on what he could be. You get to trade him based on what he is right now, which is underperforming his contract.

2 less in 14 less games, while playing with worse linemates
Lucic’s most common linemate is Trevor Lewis, with a rotating cast of centres, including an underperforming Monahan, now-scratched Brad Richardson, and rookie Adam Ruzicka (his current centre). Hoffman’s most common linemate is Suzuki (even more ice together than any goalie, which almost never happens for a skater) and then Brendan Gallagher. If you’d like to trade Suzuki+Gallagher for Lewis and your pick of Monahan, Richardson, or Ruzicka, I’m all ears. For the record, Dauphin is his 3rd most common linemate (100 mins) followed by Dvorak, Toffoli, and Anderson (all around 60 mins) so he’s played the vast majority of the time with one of your 5 better forwards (at the very least it’s 5 of your top 6 of 7 excluding him, and he’s solidly a top 6 player with the 3rd highest ATOI on the team among forwards).
Also in terms of 5v5 G/60, P/60, and xGF%, Lucic beats Hoffman in every category, 0.79-0.65, 1.58-0.78, and 50.75%-36.54%. It’s really not even close who the better player is at 5v5, which is what really matters when Hoffman won’t be on the Flames top PP.
In general, you should hope to find a fringe playoff team with an atrocious power play, where Hoffman can ideally slot into their top 6 and PP1. That’s the kind of team that might overpay for Hoffman by giving up a 2nd round pick for him, which would definitely be too much given his current performance, but might turn out to be fair in the long run if things go well on his new team.
