dont see it mentioned much

I think people are just focused on the 3 year window they’ve (literally) bought themselves. By 2025 if they haven’t won a cup, they probably won’t, because Tanev, Markstrom, Backlund, Kadri, and Huberdeau will all be in their 30s and on the decline. The others will expire, but Kadri and Huberdeau will be taking up 17.5mil for a few years of bad hockey from both guys. It could be worse (not as bad as Benn/Seguin is right now in terms of cap%) but Calgary also doesn’t have a great prospect pipeline (probably 3 top 9 forwards [two top 6] and a starting goalie, next to nothing after that) so they’ll likely fall back to the murky middle or worse by then.

Would have liked to see SJS give a roster spot to one of the younger guys but low risk. Can always send him down

huberdeau

I mean Huberdeau was always getting that term and we all know it’s going to be bad in the end but GM’s don’t pay UFA’s for the back years, they pay them for the front years

Question: Which Contract that is not looked at as bad now do you think will age poorly?

My Answer: Darcy Keumper

Bit of a hot take but I'm gonna say Mario Ferraro.

He's straight UFA after his contract with zero UFA years bought in, he's slightly overpaid compared to his performance, and if SJ is going to suck which is pretty likely I think he has very little reason to stay.

Why would you be mad though? If he decided to take the offer from Columbus which was reportedly lower than NJ's it obviously means that he had no plans whatsoever to sign with NJ unless there literally were no other options.

His first option was Flyers. That didn't pan out, so he, well, didn't even took the next best offer because it probably was the Devils one.

He baited NJ by negotiating with them for hours, then signed with a division rival. Gave me false hope and Devils subsequentley missed out on Pacioretty (but he would have never waivedlaugh)

I think our defense is fine
Future top 4: Hughes, Nemec, Hamilton, Siegenthaler.

Just missing that top line scoring winger

Tavares coming in really didn't change much lul as if COVID didn't happen that contract becomes a second thought as by now cap would be 95mill. As in general when an exceptional status all star C becomes available you grab him and through his career with us he's been pretty good

As for NJ they could have added Gaudreau and had 0 regrets as he would have cost a bit more than Palat is and all they would have had to do was let wood go

Either way both players would or have improved the teams in question and for NJ could have helped them become a playoff team like what Hall did for them

it's a bit of a wait for nemec and hughes. they should try a pick up a young guy that's ready now.

i think toronto rushed their rebuild by giving tavares that contract. should have kept kadri.

palat was a mistake for nj but thankfully one that won't cause many problems since they have lots of good long term contracts on the team.

Sometimes NHL coaches are too conservative when pulling the goalie, take a risk, goalies shouldn’t only be pulled when there’s 2 minutes left, i can see the argument for pulling a goalie as early as 7:30 left in the 3rd

Hughes is gonna be here once the NCAA season ends
Nemec probably after TDL or start of next season
Still got some guys ready in the meantime: Okhotiuk, Bahl, Walsh, Mukhamudullin*

that's until they are in the nhl. add on time for them to be experienced top 4 dmen. the devils forwards are ready to go now so i think the devils priority should be adding a good young dman.

Devils have Marino and Hamilton on the right so they’ll give time to Nemec, Hughes might be thrust into a big role soon though

They would need a #1 D to make them contenders, the assets they’d have to give up would be absurd. they are better off betting on one of Hughes/Nemec turning into that

When you’re down by 2 or 3, pulling your goalies is a low risk, high reward situation, worst case, you allow a goal but you’re already down by 2/3 so it’s not exactly changing the outcome of the game, best case, you score or even switch the momentum and suddenly you’re back in the game
