Hockey question of the day

If the NHL added 4 new teams in the league right now, where would you put them

Atlantic: Quebec City. Atlanta
Metro: (Buffalo to Metro)
Central: Houston, Kansas City
Pacific: (Coyotes to Pacific)

berlin, stockholm, helsinki, prague

I don't think the current market could support more Canadian teams beyond Hamilton and Quebec City. At least not as part of a possible 4-team expansion to bring the league to 36 total.

In fact I wouldn't prioritize either Canadian markets in an expansion. They don't make the kind of money proper expansion into American markets would. Houston, Milwaukee, Kansas City, and Portland should be prioritized as expansion locations simply based on the potential for revenue generation. Move Nashville into the eastern conference to accommodate the East/West balance.

I think places like Halifax, Regina, Saskatoon, and other "semi-major" Canadian metro centers have every claim to an AHL franchise but with sub-million populations there's never going to be any real justification to adding more Canadian NHL teams. If the US dollar is going to remain at least 20% higher than the Canadian dollar indefinitely, then maximizing that take home of the more valuable currency matters more in terms of the salary cap.

I would also hope the NHL adopts a relegation system similar to the SHL if they expand beyond 32 teams, but that's an entirely different topic.

I mean Halifax is usually 1 or 2 in Attendance in the QMJHL so I think it is just for them to get a team.

I'm with you; I'd rather see an 8 team European division added if anything to the NHL.

Mannheim, Copenhagen, London, and Paris plus the cities you mentioned gives you the European hockey hotbeds plus the 2 major financial/media centers.

Ignoring Moscow and St. Petersburg for obvious reasons in the immediate future.

Even 15,000 attendance every night is not enough to generate "NHL level" revenues without major corporate sponsorships, executive/club suite sales, etc.

This why Quebec or Hamilton are not legit contenders anymore either

If we add 4 more teams, we might as well add 8 while we are at it to make 10 teams per division, and 40 teams league wide.
But getting to the question.

Atlantic: Québéc City, Hamilton
Metropolitan: move Detroit to Metro
Central: Memphis
Pacific: San Diego

Some guy told me the Sens remind him of that Sabres team when they acquired O’Reilly and drafted Eichel and got Kane.

Like it’s not even the same team 😂😂. That Sabres team was garbage before adding those 3 players

Yeah that team is more like the Blackhawks AFTER they trade away Toews and Kane.

A barnstorming team that plays 25% in Regina, 25% Saskatoon, and 50% in Quebec City

Ironically Blues almost ended up in Saskatchewan but someone rushed in and stopped it

Saskatchewan is the big hole in the middle from all the other Canadian teams on the map and hopefully one day they get one.

But from the looks of things its probs gonna be the last place NHL expands to

That’s because there are only 17 people in Saskatchewan and 3 of them are just very realistic scarecrows

Probably. Honestly they would probably have a decent sized fan base. Just look at the rough riders: they have like the biggest fan base in the CFL. Basically everyone here is a huge rider fan.

If each town Saskatoon and Regina hosted their games outdoors and drew 30,000+ then it could equal the playing field revenue-wise

Anyone else just realize Tarasenko still hasnt rescinded his trade request

Probs wont be moved but kind of funny how despite the strong season there has been no attempt to either move him (non-serious trade to CGY was the only report) nor him saying he doesnt want to be traded anymore

Either way I just expect him to finish his contract and move on but in the end its gonna be a funny story

And ROR is UFA after this year too. Changing of the guard in St. Louis if either or both of them leave after Perron already did.

Kyrou will ask for at least 7. Tarasenko will for sure walk. If ROR asks for too much money or term , he will ask walk

Remember when we all thought Carter Hart was the second coming of Christ now it seems like he’s trapped in an always sunny in Philadelphia skit.

Goalies are weird. A couple years ago I thought that Hart and Blackwood would be the next elite goalie tandem for Canada's national team...
