He has to be one of the most consistent players ever. Exactly 6 goals each year of his career, even though the number of games he’s played has ranged from 22 to 68.
Seriously though, I thought he looked pretty promising a few years ago, but he never progressed in Anaheim. Maybe the change of scenery will help. I see that Tage Thompson signed today too, to remind everyone that 24 is not too old to have a breakout season.
I’m not saying that I expect Steel to jump from 6 goals to 36, but I see more potential upside than down here. I think he’s shown that he’s at least a useful 4th-line NHLer, so if he doesn’t make the team, somebody will probably pick him up on waivers.
